The Loyola men's and women's swim teams dominated in the pool Saturday, claiming the teams' first head-to-head victories of the season
JACKSON, Miss. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's swim teams traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, for a head-to-head matchup with Millsaps College Saturday, and both teams came home with dominant wins over the Majors. The Loyola women won their meet 199-48 while the men claimed a 157-67 victory, and the two teams combined to win 24 out of the 28 races.
The Loyola women's team claimed 14 wins over Millsaps swimmers, and Reese Berry, Jenna Copes, Sophie Sierveld and Mya Baker all earned multiple first-place finishes in individual events. Berry won the two breaststroke events, swimming a 1:11.90 in the 100 and a 2:38.42 in the 200, and Copes took first in the two butterfly races, registering times of 59.85 and 2:15.26 in the 100 and 200, respectively. Sierveld's two wins came in the 50 Yard Freestyle (26.03) and 200 Yard IM ( 2:20.29), and Baker dominated the long-distance freestyle events, winning the 1,000 Yard Free (11:06.21) and the 500 Yard Free (5:29.93).
Anna Kay Sitzman and Eve Thomas won the other two freestyle races, as Sitzman swam a time of 2:09.28 to win the 200-yard race while Thomas had a time of 58:13 in the 100-yard event. Camille McConnell and Norah Carr were the other two winners for the Wolf Pack, taking first in two backstroke events. McConnell won the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:04.37) and Carr claimed the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:17.00).
The 200 Yard Medley and 200 Yard Freestyle relay teams, both made up of Thomas, Copes, Sierveld and Sitzman also snagged first-place finishes to help Loyola's scoring.
The men's team picked up 10 wins during the meet, and Johann Kuipers led the team with three individual wins while Cameron Hinton grabbed a couple. Kuipers won the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:04.26), 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:22.95) and the 200 Yard IM (2:10.80), and Hinton took first in the long-distance events, winning the 1,000 Yard Freestyle (10:36.69) and the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:11.56).
Andrew Levine and Eric Potter grabbed first-place finishes in two freestyle races, as Levine swam a 1:55.31 in the 200-yard event and Potter taking first in the 100-yard race with a time of 49.90. Jackson Smith was the other individual first-place finisher for the Wolf Pack, swimming a 2:15.39 in the 200 Yard Fly.
The 200 Yard Medley relay team (Jackson Smith, Robert Shaffer, Kuipers and Potter) and 200 Yard Freestyle relay team (Chett Bell, Streett Martin, Potter and Shaffer) also won with times of 1:43.46 and 1:32.17, respectively.
