Box Score

The No. 25 Loyola Wolf Pack went on the road for the first time in conference Tuesday, but the Mobile Rams ended Loyola's undefeated start to the season

MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 25 Loyola Wolf Pack suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday, losing to Mobile 70-57 in the team's first Southern States Athletic Conference game of the season.

Loyola is now 5-1 overall and 0-1 in SSAC play. The team returns home to The Den this weekend with back-to-back matchups with Stillman College. The two will square off Friday at 5 p.m. then meet up again for a Saturday contest at 3 p.m.

Mobile got off to a quick 7-0 start through the first three and a half minutes of play. The Wolf Pack got its first basket from Presley Wascom a 3-pointer, but the Rams had an answer for each Wolf Pack basket in the quarter. Loyola stayed in the game with a couple of scores from Morgan Hervey, one being after a nice dish from Taylor Thomas and the other a jumper. The Rams, however, kept it a multi-possession lead for the rest of the opening frame, taking a 20-14 lead into the second.

When action resumed, Mobile pushed its lead to 30-16 midway through the quarter before Loyola got on a run. The Wolf Pack scored eight straight points in less than two minutes, and they finished the quarter on an 11-2 run. Wascom had consecutive 3-pointers during that early run, then free throws from Hervey and Kennedy Hansberry cut Mobile's lead to 32-25 by halftime.

The Rams created their separation in the third quarter, outscoring the Wolf Pack by 14 to take a 59-38 lead into the fourth.

Loyola, though, finished the game strong by scoring 15 of the game's last 16 points in the final five minutes. After Chelsea Gray, Sydney Nunley and Hervey all scored to start the run, Hansberry scored the final nine Wolf Pack points to close out the game.
