Box Score The 16th-ranked Wolf Pack dropped a home game to Stillman College Thursday, but the Pack still sits in third place in the SSAC standings
NEW ORLEANS – The No. 16 Loyola Wolf Pack fought from behind in most of Thursday night's contest Stillman College, losing at home 93-79. Loyola's record drops to 17-6 overall and 7-4 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
Tensley Aldridge got the scoring started for the Wolf Pack with a 3-pointer, then five quick points by Josh Leaney put Loyola up 12-5 seven minutes into the game. Free throws by Matt Maturah and Tim Cameron gave the Wolf Pack a 15-10 lead, but the Tigers got an 11-3 run to take their first lead, 21-18, since it was 3-0.
Both teams fought early foul trouble, as Stillman outscored the Wolf Pack by 10 points to close out the first half leading 45-32.
Stillman opened the second half by pushing its lead to 17, as it held a 51-34 advantage, but the Wolf Pack cut the deficit to eight points three minutes later. Tim Cameron scored six points during that time, as well as Terry Smith Jr. contributing four. Again, the Tigers extended the lead out to 17 points with eight minutes to go, and again, the Wolf Pack battled back to trim the Tigers' lead to eight with two minutes to go.
Stillman, however, would hold on for the win.
The Wolf Pack is back in The Den Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against Mobile.
Pack Facts
Josh Leaney led the Wolf Pack with 17 points, which is a new career-high for the junior.
Zach Wrightsil notched his 11th double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Wrightsil's five assists moved the sophomore up in the Loyola career and single-season record book as well. He now has 99 this season, which puts him 10th in Loyola history for assists in a single season. He already owns the second spot after recording 143 assists as a freshman. He also has 240 for his career and he's now sixth all-time in the program's history.
Myles tallied just one steal, but it was good enough to move him tied for fourth all-time with 150 career steals.
