No. 12 Loyola downs Stillman College

The Wolf Pack led throughout Thursday's contest against Stillman College on their way to their eighth conference win of the season

NEW ORLEANS – The 12th-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack used a dominating effort in The Den Thursday to take down Stillman College 92-62. The 30-point win marks the fourth-largest win margin this season, as Loyola has won games by 32, 42 and 52 points so far this campaign. 

 

The Wolf Pack is now 15-4 overall and 8-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. They currently sit in second place in the standings, one game behind Bethel. 

 

Loyola grabbed the 2-0 lead 11 seconds into the game and they never looked back. Behind Paige Franckiewicz's 18 first-half points, the Wolf Pack outscored the Tigers 30-16 in the first quarter and 18-13 in the second to lead by 19 at the half. 

 

Loyola made their first seven shots of the game to take a 13-6 lead halfway through the opening frame. Franckiewicz used two 3-pointers and a 2-point field to get her first eight points during that stretch, while Kamille Cooper scored six quick points as well. Taylor Thomas, Kaila Anthony and Tay Cannon scored points to push the lead to 23-8, finishing the first with a 30-16 lead. 

 

The two teams combined for only three made shots through the first five minutes of the second quarter, but Franckiewicz scored seven points in less than two minutes to extend the advantage to 37-24. After a 3-pointer from Presley Wascom with a minute left in the half, Loyola went into halftime with a 48-29 lead. 

 

Loyola built a 22-point lead halfway through the third quarter when Wascom made her fourth 3-pointer of the night to make it a 59-37 game, outscoring the Tigers 24-17 in the quarter. Thomas nailed four straight free throws and Cannon had two made shots in the final two minutes to put the Wolf Pack up 72-46 entering the final 10 minutes. 

 

The Wolf Pack closed out the game by winning the fourth quarter 20-16 en route to the win.

 

The Wolf Pack will return to The Den Saturday when they play host to Mobile at noon.

  • Kamille Cooper earned a new career-high in steals with three.

  • Kaila Anthony's 16 points helped her move to ninth all-time in Loyola's record book with 1,215 career points. 

  • After getting a new career-high in assists the last time out, Kennedy Hansberry led Loyola with five Thursday.

  • For the fourth time this season, the Wolf Pack shot better than 50 percent from the field, as they went 34-for-65 (53 percent) Thursday.
