Loyola improves to 2-0 after Tuesday's win

Box Score

The Wolf Pack used a 35-point win over LSU Alexandria Tuesday to remain unbeaten through two games so far this season

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team jumped up big early and cruised to a 93-58 win over LSU Alexandria Tuesday night in The Den.

Taylor Thomas picked up right where she left off from the first game, scoring five of the team's first 11 points to give the Pack an 11-4 lead through two and half minutes of play. Sandra Cannady then scored six quick points to make it an 18-12 game, as she finished with eight points through the first 10 minutes of the game.

Chelsea Gray was big on the boards in the first half, and she pulled down five in the first quarter to help build a 29-18 advantage by the end of the opening frame. She finished with a career-high 10 rebounds on the night.

The second quarter was a little more evenly matched, as Loyola outscored the Generals 18-15 in the quarter to take a 47-33 lead into halftime. Tay Cannon scored six early points in the second to keep it a 10-point game, then Kennedy Hansberry hit a 3-point to help keep the Pack ahead by double-digits.

Cannady scored six of her team-high 16 points in the first three minutes of the third quarter, pushing Loyola's lead to 21, 58-37. Kate Petrovic also had a 3-pointer early in the frame, and Presley Wascom and Jazmene McMillan combined for nine points down the stretch to take a 76-44 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Jada Farrell hit two 3-pointers to start the fourth for good measure, as the Wolf Pack never took their foot off the gas in the 35-point rout.

Loyola's next game is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 16, against Xavier at 5:30 p.m. in The Den.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Kellie Kennedy

"Chelsea Gray was really good for us tonight, and she was good for us when we needed her to be good for us. We obviously got a big lead in the second half, but when we didn't have a good lead she was good for us. I was really proud with our group. I thought we put together a great team effort. We didn't hit the shots that we needed to hit early on, I mean we missed a lot of layups and we weren't shooting like we normally do from the 3-point line, but our defense helped us survive that. I'm just really proud with how so many people contributed to the win."
