TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In a battle of two teams tied for first place in the conference, the No. 17 Loyola Wolf Pack outlasted the Stillman College Tigers 70-64 Thursday. The win helps the Wolf Pack remain tied with two others atop the Southern States Athletic Conference standings with a 4-1 record.
Loyola is now 10-3 overall and it'll play at Mobile Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
Stillman College got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 10-4 lead through the first three and a half minutes of the game. The Wolf Pack got back into the game by using two 3-pointers from Kate Petrovic and Paige Franckiewicz, then a two-point field goal by Breyah Richardson to tie the game at 12-12.
The Tigers, again, jumped back out ahead with a seven-point lead. They led Loyola 19-12 with two minutes left in the opening quarter, but the Wolf Pack scored the final eight points to take a 20-19 lead into the second.
Loyola didn't let up either. It scored the first seven points of the second quarter, capping off the 15-0 run with the 27-19 lead. Stillman, however, fought back to cut Loyola's lead to 35-32 by halftime.
After two close quarters to begin the game, Loyola outscored Stillman 17-8 in the third to create much-needed separation on the scoreboard. Presely Wascom led the Wolf Pack with five points in the quarter, but five different players recorded a point to extend their lead to 52-40 with 10 minutes to play.
Stillman outscored Loyola for the first time in the game in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 12-point deficit. Taylor Thomas started the quarter with five straight points to help keep Loyola in front, and Tay Cannon had three of her career-high 10 rebounds at key moments to help finish off the win.

Tay Cannon recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Cannon's 18 points is a season-high, while her 10 rebounds is the most she's tallied in her Loyola career.
With 12 points Thursday, Presley Wascom has now scored in double digits in three straight games. She's now scored 10 or more points in six games this season.
Breyah Richardson's 10 points is a season-high for the senior. Her career-high 13 points came during her sophomore season.
Behind Cannon and Thomas' performances on the boards, three others had at least four rebounds. Kamille Cooper, Chelsea Gray and Richardson all helped Loyola pull down 38 total rebounds.
