Box Score The Wolf Pack will get a week off before playing three straight home conference games in The Den
MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The 12th-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack suffered their first loss since Jan. 2 Thursday, falling to the Brewton-Parker Barons 76-69 in Mount Vernon, Georgia. The loss moves the Wolf Pack's record to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
Brewton-Parker started the game with back-to-back 3-pointers, as it shot 4-for-8 from beyond the arc in the quarter. Loyola did take an early 7-6 lead, but the Barons pushed ahead 11-7 a minute later. A 3-pointer by Paige Franckiewicz and another made shot by Kate Petrovic cut the Barons' lead to 13-12 seven minutes into the game. Brewton-Parker, however, closed the first quarter on a 7-2 run to bring the score to 20-14.
The Barons held the lead for the entire second quarter, extending it to as much as eight, 33-25, halfway through the frame. The Wolf Pack, though, closed out the half by scoring eight of the final 10 points to make it a 35-33 game with 20 minutes to play.
Loyola quickly took its first lead, 36-35, since midway through the first quarter after a Kaila Anthony 3-pointer early in the third quarter, then the two teams wrestled with the lead for most of the remainder of the game. Franckiewicz drilled back-to-back 3s to keep Loyola ahead 45-42, then a steal and score by Kennedy Hansberry two minutes later gave the Wolf Pack a 49-46 advantage. In all, there were five lead changes in the third, as the Wolf Pack ended the frame with a 50-48 lead.
Loyola held the lead through the first three and a half minutes of the fourth quarter, but the Barons regained the advantage 58-57 at the 6:30 mark. They pushed ahead by six points three minutes later, as the Wolf Pack couldn't find the equalizer. An Anthony 3-pointer with two minutes to play cut the deficit to two points, but Brewton-Parker made four free throws down the stretch to earn the win.
Loyola returns to The Den next week, playing host to Stillman College at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Kaila Anthony's 13 points helped her enter the Loyola record book's Top 10 for career points, as the senior now has 1,199 for her career. That puts her 10th all-time in the program's history.
Kamille Cooper recorded 10 rebounds Thursday, marking the fourth time this season she's had double-digit rebounds. Her career-high 14 boards came on Jan. 2 against Faulkner University.
Kennedy Hansberry tallied a career-high nine assists in the game, beating her career-best six assists she set last year and this season.
Paige Franckiewicz led the Wolf Pack for the fifth consecutive game with 17 points.
