Box Score The Rams used hot 3-point shooting to down the Wolf Pack Saturday in an SSAC matchup
MOBILE, Ala. – The eighth-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack dropped their second conference game of the season Saturday, losing to the University of Mobile 84-82 on the road. The game was Loyola's fourth straight road contest as well, but the Pack will be back at home for the next three games.
The Wolf Pack is now 4-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play and 13-4 overall.
Loyola played from behind for most of the first half, trailing by as many as five points four separate times before Loyola took a 25-24 lead at the nine-minute mark. The two teams would share the lead four more times before the Rams took the lead for good in the half with a minute to play.
Mobile scored the final seven of eight points to go into halftime with a 41-35 advantage.
In the second half, there were four ties and four lead changes early as the Rams grabbed the lead, 50-49. From there, the Wolf Pack trailed for the rest of the game. They were down by as many as nine points at two different points of the second half, as Mobile was able to keep a two-possession lead for most of the remaining time.
Behind on the scoreboard 65-56, Loyola's defense caused three Mobile turnovers to make it a 65-62 game. The Rams, however, used back-to-back 3-pointers to push back ahead 74-65. Tensley Aldridge sunk two free throws to bring the deficit to five, but another 3 from Mobile extended the lead back out to eight points with three minutes to play.
Mobile converted 10 of its 21 3-point attempts in the contest.
Tim Cameron did make things interesting with 2 seconds on the clock, though. The junior drilled a 3 to make it 84-82, but a full-court heave after a Mobile missed free throw at the buzzer was unsuccessful.
Loyola is back in action Wednesday against Spring Hill College, as tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in The Den.
