Loyola Falls In Road Game At Faulkner 83-74

Box Score

The Pack claimed the lead with six minutes remaining but were unable to hold on in a back-and-forth game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a game that saw 16 ties and 14 lead changes, the Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team came up short at Faulkner Thursday night 83-74 at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

While the home team scored first, an Ethan Turner three-pointer began a quick 7-0 run to put the Wolf Pack (14-9, 9-7) back on top. However, the Eagles (15-9, 8-8) would respond with a 7-0 run of their own, beginning a night of call and response scoring from both teams.

With 13 and a half minutes left on the clock, Cameron Dumas connected from deep to put Loyola out 14-11, with a deep three coming from Turner moments later to set the score at 19-16. After a three point shot from Faulkner, Benjamin Fields responded with one from outside the arc followed by a layup from Terry Smith Jr., setting the scoreboard at 26-21 in favor of the Pack. A 7-0 run from the home team would give them the lead once again, before Fields reclaimed it for Loyola on an and-one to make it a 31-28 game with four minutes left.

While the two teams traded scores to end the half, it would be Faulkner who walked into the locker room with a slim lead, as the Wolf Pack trailed 40-38.

It was more of the same in the second half, with four ties and five lead changes in the first 10 minutes alone. After a score from Tre'Von Jasmine tied the game at 60 and pushed him over the 1,000 points mark for his career, scores from Fields and Smith would give Loyola their last lead of the evening with six minutes left in the game. The game remained close, with Faulkner converting late-game free throws to bring the final score to 83-74.

The Wolf Pack will travel to Macon, Ga. and take on Middle Georgia State this Saturday, February 9 at 2 p.m.
