Box Score After trailing in the opening quarter, Loyola storms back for the 13-point victory
PULASKI, Tenn. – The No. 25 Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team punctuated another spectacular season with a 74-61 victory at Martin Methodist Saturday afternoon at the Curry Christian Life Center.
The home team jumped on the board first, going out in front of the Wolf Pack (23-6, 17-3 SSAC) by a score of 9-2 through four minutes of play. Loyola would trail by as much as eight in the first quarter, as they entered the second period down 19-11 to the RedHawks (19-11, 13-7 SSAC).
The opening of the second quarter was a different story for the Pack, as a three from Presley Wascom began a 23-7 run. A make from deep by Paige Franckiewicz and bucket from Tera Snell made it a four point deficit for Loyola, with the Wolf Pack eventually tying the game on a three from Kaila Anthony. Another shot from beyond the arc by Franckiewicz made it a 29-26 game in favor of the visiting Pack. A pair of free throws in the final seconds of the half from Martin Methodist would set the score at 38-33, with Loyola taking the lead after outscoring the home team 27-14 in the second quarter.
After the RedHawks retook the lead a few minutes into the third, Loyola stepped back out in front on a pair of free throws from Breyah Richardson 42-41. Hot shooting to close out the third quarter from the Pack would extend their lead, as scores from Anthony, Tay Cannon, and another three from Wascom would set the board at 57-49 heading into the final period.
The Wolf Pack defense buckled down to close out the game, holding the home team to just seven points through the first six minutes of the quarter. Two late three pointers from Wascom would help seal the Loyola victory 74-61 to end their 2018-19 regular season with a road win.
The Pack now turn their attention to the 2019 SSAC Women's Basketball Championship, as head coach Kellie Kennedy's squad will enter the tournament looking to defend their title. Loyola will enter as the number two seed and take on the winner of William Carey and Florida College on Thursday, February 28 at 12:30 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala.
