Loyola drops home contest to LSU Alexandria

Box Score

The No. 8 Wolf Pack conclude their 2019 portion schedule with an 11-2 overall mark, and they'll pick things back up Jan. 2

NEW ORLEANS – The eighth-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack and the 12th-ranked LSU Alexandria Generals battled Tuesday afternoon in The Den, as LSUA handed the Wolf Pack their first home loss of the season.

Loyola is now 11-2 overall and it's back in action Jan. 2 when it travels to Southern States Athletic Conference foe, Faulkner University. The Wolf Pack will resume SSAC play with a 2-0 record.

The Wolf Pack got off to a good start shooting the ball, jumping out to a 16-11 lead after the first five minutes of play. They continued to have a little cushion until the 12-minute mark when their 24-17 lead shrunk to a 25-24 LSUA advantage with 10 minutes left in the half.

The Generals pushed their lead to 39-29 before an 11-0 run by Loyola gave the Pack a 40-39 lead with a minute left. Loyola would eventually take a 43-42 lead into halftime.

LSUA, however, started the second half on a 9-0 run through the first two and a half minutes, and the Generals led for the rest of the game. Loyola was able to cut the LSUA lead down to one possession six times, but the Pack couldn't find the go-ahead bucket.

Zach Wrightsil, Tim Cameron, Myles Burns and Terry Smith Jr. all made shots to bring the Wolf Pack to within striking distance, but LSUA made answered every time.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Stacy Hollowell

"We've spent the last two weeks working on containing dribble penetration and being in gaps defensively. Because this team shot the 3 so well, I asked our guys to guard differently and they took advantage of that and were able to get to the rim pretty much at will. We had a few defensive coverage mistakes, particularly right there at the beginning of the second half. They hit tough shots, and when you put those three things together, you have a recipe for disaster. You have to credit them. They came out and met the challenge."
