Box Score The Wolf Pack are playing two games this weekend in Lakeland, Florida
LAKELAND, Fla. – The Loyola Wolf Pack suffered their first loss of the season Friday in Lakeland, Florida, losing to Southeastern University 79-66. Loyola outscored the Fire in two of the game's quarters, but a slow start in the first quarter forced the Wolf Pack to play from behind the rest of the contest.
The Wolf Pack will play Ave Maria University Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lakeland.
Southeastern began the game with a 10-3 run to set the pace early. Loyola cut the score to 11-9 halfway through the first, but the Fire extended it back out to 19-9 by the end of the frame.
Two quick buckets by Southeastern made it a 24-9 ballgame to start the second, however, the Wolf Pack used a 17-7 run to cut the Fire's lead to five. Kate Petrovic's 3-pointer made it a 31-26 game with three minutes left in the half. Petrovic made another 3 in the final 5 seconds to bring the deficit to 38-31 after the first 20 minutes of play.
Southeastern outscored Loyola 23-15 in the third quarter, as Loyola trailed 61-41 entering the final 10 minutes of play. The two traded points for most of the fourth quarter, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Kaila Anthony and Presley Wascom cut the Fire's advantage to 10 with two minutes to play.
Southeastern would hold on for the 13-point win, though.
Pack Facts
The Wolf Pack had four players score in double figures. Kate Petrovic led Loyola with 16 points, Paige Franckiewicz was next with 13, Kaila Anthony scored 12 and Presley Wascom added 11.
Petrovic's 16 points was a career-high for the freshman. Her previous best was seven points in the season-opener against the University of the Virgin Islands.
Kennedy Hansberry dished five assists for a team-high.
Tera Snell's six rebounds led the Pack, and it tied a season-high for the sophomore.
