Box Score Megan Worry notches her 10th double-double of the season, leading the team with 18 points and 11 boards while adding one blocked shot
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team began a five-game road trip with a 69-46 victory over Stillman College Thursday evening at Birthright Alumni Hall.
Kaila Anthony began the scoring for the Wolf Pack (17-5, 11-2 SSAC) with an inside bucket, while the Tigers (10-10, 5-7 SSAC) responded with a putback to tie the score 2-2 early. The two teams played a tough defensive quarter, with the Pack leading 15-12 heading into the second period.
The second quarter was also a defensive battle, with Loyola holding Stillman under their first quarter total, winning the quarter 13-11 to take a 28-23 lead into halftime after both teams shot under 40% for the half.
The Wolf Pack offense began to pick up in the second half, with the visitors scoring at least 20 points in each of the final two quarters. The Pack took their first double-digit lead after back-to-back makes from Megan Worry and Kennedy Hansberry pushed the advantage to 33-23. The game's leading scorer, Worry hit her second triple of the game later in the quarter to push the Wolf Pack's lead to 12 points.
The Wolf Pack put Stillman away with a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter, gaining as large as a 66-42 lead with three minutes to play and holding the advantage until the final buzzer.
Loyola will remain on the road this weekend and take on another conference foe, heading to Mobile for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, February 2.
Pack Facts
Sweeping their two games with both Florida College and Stillman this season, the Pack are 4-0 against the two newcomers to the SSAC.
Loyola held the Tigers to just 31.2% shooting from the field, and entered today ranked fourth in the NAIA in field goal defense at 32.7%.
Entering the game ranked 10th in the country in rebounds per game, averaging 43.9, the Wolf Pack out-rebounded Stillman by 10, 47 to 37.
Megan Worry dropped 18 points with 11 rebounds for her conference-leading 10th double-double on the year.
Kaila Anthony added 14 points, while grabbing five boards, dishing out five assists, and adding a steal and block on the defensive end.
With her blocked shot tonight Anthony now has 43 career swats, which ties her for the eighth most in a career at Loyola.
