Box Score The Loyola defense holds Brewton-Parker under 30 percent from the field while dropping 105 points
NEW ORLEANS – Topping the century mark for the fourth time this season, the Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team defeated Brewton-Parker 105-69 Saturday evening in The Den.
Jumping out and claiming their lead they would hold the whole game, Loyola (13-7, 8-5 SSAC) took an early 8-3 advantage highlighted by threes from Myles Burns and Ethan Turner. A pair of free throws from Terry Smith Jr. gave Loyola a 10-point lead, 17-7, five minutes into the game before an offensive board from the sophomore and layup eventually made it 20-9.
After grabbing a rebound on the defensive end, Zach Wrightsil found Trey LaForge at the three-point line to put Loyola on top 22-11, before later connecting on a three of his own from the corner to put Loyola up 17. As the half wound down, the Barons (1-18, 0-12 SSAC) began to climb back in, making it a six-point game before the Wolf Pack added a final two points before the break to make it a 45-37 game at halftime.
Loyola had a much more comfortable time in the second half, outscoring the Barons 60-32 in the period. The teams played evenly through the first few minutes of the half, but Cameron Dumas extended the Wolf Pack lead back to double digits on an and-one to make the score 57-45 with five minutes gone in the period.
The home squad held a double-figure advantage throughout the rest of the second half after holding the Barons to just 28.6 percent shooting. The Pack went on a 16-3 run to end the game, with Semaj Flugence scoring for the first time as a member of the Wolf Pack on two free throws that sent Loyola over the 100-point mark. The largest lead came at the end of the game, where Loyola emerged victorious by a score of 105-69.
The Pack end their five-game homestand and travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to take on Stillman College Thursday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m.
