Loyola Men's Basketball Falls 83-62 At Faulkner

Box Score

The team returns to The Den for the final two regular season home games against William Carey this Thursday and Blue Mountain on Saturday.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The final regular season away game for the Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team ended on a low note, as they fell 83-62 to Faulkner University at Tine W. Davis Gymnasium in Montgomery.

The Wolf Pack (14-11, 10-5) scored the first basket of the game on a two-pointer from Robert White (SR/Los Angeles, Calif.), but the Eagles (18-8, 10-6) would control the tempo for most of the game.

Tre'Von Jasmine (JR/Edgard, La.) got an easy bucket after stealing the ball from Faulkner to put the Pack up 4-0, but that four-point lead would hold as the Largest for Loyola throughout the game.

The turning point came when after a three-pointer by Josh Leaney (FR/Brisbane, Australia) cut Faulkner's lead to one point, 20-19 with 10:40 left in the first half. The Eagles subsequently went on a 20-3 run to increase their lead to 18 at the 3:31-mark of the first half.

The home team's lead grew to 20 by the end of the half, where Faulkner led 48-28 despite nine points each from Jasmine and Nick Parker (SR/Port Allen, La.).

The second half saw much of results as the first, with the Eagles expanding their lead to as many as 25 points as a trey at the 15:57-mark of the second half made the score 57-32.

The Wolf Pack were able to chip away the deficit to as little as 13 points after Benjamin Fields (SR/Bernice, La.) lit up the box score with a steal, three-pointer, and another basket assisted by Parker. The Eagles would respond, however, regaining their lead and holding it until the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard showing 83-62 in favor of Faulkner.

Jasmine would finish the game leading all scorers with 16 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Fields hit on five of his six shots for 13 points while grabbing 8 boards and two steals. Parker remained at nine points, hitting three triples in the first half while leading the team in assists with three.

Four players scored in double figures for the Eagles. Lucas Luttrell tied with Jasmine for a game-high 16 points as well as 10 rebounds. Marquis Grays and Rene Scott each put up 14 points, and Adnan Halilovic scored 12.

The Wolf Pack return home for the final two games of the regular season next weekend, both at The Den. First up is a 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 matchup against NAIA No. 14-ranked William Carey University, whom the Pack defeated in Hattiesburg earlier in the year. After that is the final game of the regular season, where Loyola will take on Blue Mountain College on Saturday, Feb 24 at 2 p.m.
