DALTON, Ga. - The Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team fell 95-70 to No. 15 Dalton State on Thursday evening in Dalton, Ga.
The Roadrunners (20-6, 12-3) jumped out to an early lead that the Wolf Pack (14-10, 10-4) couldn't overcome in the end.
Chase Eckholdt (SR/Mandeville, La.) hit a three from the left wing to put Loyola on the scoreboard with 16:03 left in the first half. His three, however, came after Dalton State had already jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game.
The visiting Wolf Pack were held to 23 points in the first half on 34.5% shooting, while the Roadrunners shot a blistering 58.1% from the field, taking a 48-23 lead into halftime.
The Pack significantly increased their scoring efficiency in the second half, putting up 47 points while shooting 47.3% (18-38). Loyola was also able to cut the Dalton State lead to as little as 15 points, as a three-pointer from Josh Leaney (FR/Brisbane, Australia) made the score 81-66 with 6:06 left in the game.
The Roadrunners, however, responded with a 14-4 run to close out the game's final six minutes, as they also scored 47 points in the second half, sealing the 95-70 loss for the Wolf Pack.
Tre'Von Jasmine (JR/Edgard, La.) led Loyola with 15 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Nick Parker (SR/Port Allen, La.) also scored well in the second half, contributing 12 in that period and 14 overall, while also dishing out four assists. Josh Leaney put up nine points, his second-highest scoring output of the season.
For the Roadrunners, Carnilious Simmons led the way with 20 points and 11 boards. Benat Hevia was second on the team with 17 points and 9 assists. Isaiah Box had 16 points and four three-pointers.
The Wolf Pack head to Montgomery, Ala., where they will take on Faulkner University on Saturday at 4 p.m. before returning to New Orleans for the regular season's final two games.
