Pack Top SUNO for Second Time This Season

Loyola puts up a dominating 85-48 performance, shooting 50% from the field

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team defeated Southern University at New Orleans Wednesday night, picking up a 85-48 win at The Castle.

 

While the home team would score first to open the game, the Wolf Pack (5-4) responded with a three-pointer from Kaila Anthony to take a lead they would hold through the rest of the contest. Loyola would take a double-digit advantage five minutes into the game on a score from Tay Cannon to go up 13-2. The Pack eventually climbed out in front of the Lady Knights (4-9) by 16 at the end of the first quarter.

 

The second quarter was all Wolf Pack, as Breyah Richardson would begin a 25-14 period with two points to make it 26-8. To close the half Loyola sunk a pair of shots from three, one from Anthony and a second from Paige Franckiewicz to set the score at 49-22 at the break.

 

In the third quarter SUNO would battle back, outscoring Loyola 10-2 to begin the second half. While the Lady Knights would outpace the Pack by a score of 22-18 in the third, Loyola still held a 67-44 lead headed into the final 10 minutes of play.

 

The Wolf Pack would close out the game and seal the win with another strong quarter in the fourth, as freshman Olivia Ayers scored four to get Loyola going. After scoring 13-unanswered points, the Pack would close out the game to win their fifth of the season, besting SUNO 85-48.

 

Loyola will return to The Den for their next game, hosting No. 25 Dillard this Saturday, December 8th at 2 p.m.
