Box Score Presley Wascom sets career-high and Paige Franckiewicz a season-high in points for Loyola
NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team hosted Middle Georgia State University Sunday afternoon, defeating them 88-76 in The Den for their fourth-straight victory.
The two teams opened up on an offensive tear, with the Wolf Pack (8-4, 3-1) striking first on a pair of threes from Kaila Anthony. The Knights (5-6, 1-3) matched Loyola for the first few minutes, with the score reaching 10-10. The back-and-forth play would continue through the remainder of the quarter, with the Pack holding a slim 21-20 lead after 10 minutes of play.
While Middle Georgia would tie the game on a free throw, Paige Franckiewicz sunk a three on the next possession to put Loyola back on top. A three from the Knights tied the game one last time at 24-all, but the Wolf Pack began to pull away. After scoring the first eight points of the quarter, Franckiewicz found Anthony on the three-point line, connecting on a shot to put the home team up 32-26.
The remainder of the first half was all Anthony and Franckiewicz, as the two scored all of the Pack's 23 second-quarter points to give Loyola a 44-35 lead at the break. While the visitors would score first in the third quarter to make it a five-point game, Kamille Cooper converted an and-one play in response. The Wolf Pack continued to extend their lead, going up by 13 with four minutes left in the period on a three from Presley Wascom.
Franckiewicz would add six more on a pair of makes from beyond the arc, before the third quarter came to a close with the home team up 68-53. Loyola would retain their lead through the final period, with the Wolf Pack eventually claiming the 88-76 win.
The Pack will play one final game at home in The Den before taking a holiday break, hosting the University of the Virgin Islands Monday, December 17 at 2 p.m.
