Box Score The Pack fall in a close one on the road after leading at the half
MT. VERNON, Ga. – The No. 17 Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team wrapped up their conference opening weekend today, falling to Brewton-Parker 58-54 Saturday afternoon in Gillis Gymnasium.
While Brewton-Parker (5-3, 2-0) hit the scoreboard first with a layup, the Wolf Pack (4-4, 1-1) would score 16 of the next 18 points with buckets from Kaila Anthony, Paige Franckiewicz and Megan Worry. Over the final minutes of the first quarter the home team would add two more points to bring the score to 16-6 at the first break.
The home team would open the second period with a two, eventually cutting into the Pack's lead to make it a six-point game, 23-17. A make from beyond the arc by Presley Wascom and layup from Anthony would give Loyola a double-digit advantage with the Pack eventually climbing out in front 34-19 as the buzzer sounded for halftime.
After a score from the home team to open the third quarter Wascom responded with another make from three to put the Wolf Pack up 16. However, the Barons would climb their way back into the game, outscoring Loyola 19-12 in the third period, with the score sitting at 46-38 entering the final 10 minutes of play.
After a bucket from Kennedy Hansberry, the home team would respond with 12-straight to take a 48-50 lead with five and a half minutes left on the clock. While the two teams would trade buckets to close the match, Brewton-Parker would sit out in front as the game ended to claim the four-point win.
While Loyola will return to New Orleans, the Pack will head across town to take on Southern University at New Orleans Wednesday, December 5 at 5:30 p.m.
Pack Facts
All four of the Pack's losses this season have come by four points or less.
For the third time this season, Presley Wascom hit double-digits in the scoring column, dropping 11 while shooting 3-4 from three-point range.
The team leader in three-pointers made, Paige Franckiewicz connected on two from deep today, and has now sunk a three-ball in each of Loyola's eight games this season.
Kaila Anthony has grabbed three or more steals in the past three games, and is now averaging 2.25 per contest.
