Box Score

Loyola pulled within two points with 10 seconds remaining but fell at home

NEW ORLEANS - The No. 17 Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team fell 79-75 to No. 3 Campbellsville on Friday night in The Den to begin the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Mid-South Conference Challenge.

The Wolf Pack (0-3) struck first in the battle of two teams that each reached the Round of 16 in last year's NAIA National Championship. An'Jolique Woodson scored a basket and two free throws while Kaila Anthony knocked down a three-pointer to give the Pack a 7-2 early lead in the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers (3-0) responded with a 15-4 run to force a Loyola timeout, later taking a 21-18 lead into the second quarter. The visitors would extend their advantage to as many as eight points, leading 38-30 with under two minutes left in the half. Campbellsville would take a seven-point lead into halftime, up 40-33.

The visitors would move out in front of the Pack nine points via free throws to start the half, but Loyola opened up an 11-2 run to tie the game after a three from Anthony and a couple of triples from Presley Wascom.

The Lady Tigers would take a 59-55 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Pack fought back once again, with the game tied at 61-all with nine minutes on the clock. The final quarter would remain close, with six of the game's nine lead changes occuring in the fourth.

An 8-2 run including back-to-back threes by Paige Franckiewicz would give the Wolf Pack a 73-71 lead with just under three minutes left in regulation. Campbellsville would regain the lead, extending it to four points with 13 seconds remaining. A layup from Anthony would cut the visiting lead to just two with 10 seconds left, but the Lady Tigers sunk their free throws to come away with the 79-75 win.

The Wolf Pack will wrap up play in the SSAC and Mid-South Challenge, facing Pikeville Saturday, November 10, at 1 p.m. in The Den.
