Box Score The Wolf Pack win their second-straight over a ranked opponent behind Cameron Dumas' 25 and a double-double from Zach Wrightsil
NEW ORLEANS – Hosting their second consecutive ranked crosstown-rival Thursday night, the Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team defeated No. 11 Dillard 90-75 in The Den.
The Bleu Devils (4-1) scored first, but the Wolf Pack (4-2) responded immediately with Myles Burns finding Cameron Dumas for his first three-pointer of the game. Dumas was not done, as he and Zach Wrightsil each hit triples to put the Pack up 17-9 less than five minutes into the game.
Later in the fist half, another three by Dumas sparked an 11-1 run as Loyola gained its largest lead of the period at 50-34. The freshman scored a crafty layup near the end of the half to push his point total to 13 as the Pack took a 52-38 advantage into the break.
Dillard was able to cut the home lead to 11 points early in the second half as the game became a defensive battle. Dumas then sparked the Wolf Pack offense once again by hitting three more treys, the third of which ignited a 13-0 scoring run for Loyola, who took their largest lead of the game at 81-54 with just over eight minutes to play. While the Bleu Devils would gradually chip away at their deficit, Loyola defended their home court with a 15-point victory, winning by a final score of 90-75.
The Wolf Pack will hit the road tomorrow for an exhibition at McNeese State, and return to their regular season schedule on November 29th when they open up SSAC play at Florida College.
Wolf Pack Head Coach Stacy Hollowell
"Coming into the game tonight, we wanted to see if we could push the tempo offensively and put pressure on them getting back on defense. The growth in our defensive schemes from game one of the season against them, to game six for us is very noticeable. We've cleaned up quite a bit in practice schematically and improved our coverages."
"Tonight we saw a great team effort. The contribution from Josh Leaney was big, and Trey LaForge came in and gave us six rebounds in the first half. Those are the types of things that will sustain us in the long run, guys that can come off the bench and give us quality minutes."
