Wolf Pack Extend Win Streak To Eight With Home Win

Box Score

Five members of the Pack hit double-digits in scoring to keep Loyola undefeated in the SSAC

NEW ORLEANS - After trailing at the half the Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team battled back to claim a 67-58 victory over Middle Georgia State Saturday at The Den.

The visiting Knights (4-9, 1-4) jumped out to a quick lead, with two quick threes after the seven minute mark to take a 14-7 lead. The Wolf Pack (12-3, 5-0) bit back to keep it close, with Kaila Anthony hitting a bucket and An'Jolique Woodson responding on the other end with a block, followed by a field goal of her own off a Di'Mond Jackson pass.

The first quarter would end with the visiting team leading 24-15, a lead they would hold into the halftime break.

Down eight at the half, Loyola quickly cut into their deficit, with Jackson and Zoie Miller each hitting both of their awarded free throws. Just under the eight minute mark in the third quarter, Miller converted a Middle Georgia State turnover into three points, cutting the visitors lead down to two.

With under four minutes to play in the third, Megan Worry hit a three to give the Pack their first lead since early in the first quarter. The trend continued for Loyola in the third, as Paige Franckiewicz sunk two three's with Miller adding one to close out the third. The Wolf Pack's huge 27-8 quarter put the home squad up 55-44 heading into the final period.

The visiting Knights would inch back into the game late in the fourth, making it a three point game with 4:58 remaining. However, the conference's leading scorer, Miller, responded with a bucket of her own before finding Kaila Anthony behind the arc for a three with 2:25 left to play.

Loyola would hold on to claim their eighth-straight victory to remain undefeated in conference play. Five members of the Wolf Pack finished with 10 or more points and were led by Miller's 18. Woodson and Worry led the team with six boards while both Miller and Jackson dished out six assists.

The Knight's leading scorer was Dexshalyn Polite, who put in 28 points with TyAsia Grayer leading Middle Georgia State in rebounds, grabbing 12.

The Wolf Pack will continue conference play and head to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on No. 23 Martin Methodist on Thursday January 11th at 5:30 p.m.
