Box Score Wolf Pack improves to 19-5 overall and 11-3 in the SSAC following the road win.
Looking to bounce back from a stunning 78-85 defeat against Brenau University on Thursday, the T24 Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team looked to get back on track against Middle Georgia State University on Saturday.
Powered by an impressive double-double by Di'Mond Jackson (JR/Baton Rouge, La.), the Wolf Pack defeated the Knights 70-59 inside the Morris Gym in Cochran.
Loyola started out the game on a tear, scoring 10-unanswered points to take the 10-0 advantage with 6:00 remaining in the opening quarter. Middle Georgia managed to trim the deficit to six points at 10-4 before a layup by Jackson sparked a 13-0 run to stretch the visitors cushion to 23-4 with just under two minutes to play in the first quarter. The Knights ended the frame by scoring six-straight to cut the deficit to 23-10 in favor of the Wolf Pack.
The home team continued its scoring streak in the second quarter by starting the frame with six-unanswered points. Up 23-16, Loyola used baskets from Kaila Anthony (FR/Pflugerville, Texas), Megan Worry (SO/Houston, Texas) and Jackson to push the lead to 14 points (30-16) with 3:45 to play before halftime. Jackson ended the quarter with a layup down low and the scoreboard read 35-25 in favor of the visitors heading into the locker rooms.
Middle Georgia managed to get within six points on three separate occasions in the third. Down 11, the Knights scored the final three points of the quarter to cut the deficit to 49-41 after three.
Loyola pushed its lead to as many as 15 points in the fourth before eventually grabbing 70-59 victory on the road.
Jackson paced all players with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds in 29 minutes played. Kylah Jones (SR/Houston, Texas) put up 14 points in the win while Zoie Miller (JR/Frisco, Texas) added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. Meghan Temple (SR/Houston, Texas) finished the game with seven points and 11 boards and Anthony added nine points in the victory.
Tasicianna Taylor led the Knights with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Wolf Pack will return to First NBC Court on Saturday, Feb. 11, to take on Faulkner University at 2:00 p.m.
