Loyola's Kennedy Captures 200th Win As the Wolf Pack Earn 78-58 Victory over SUNO

Wolf Pack completes a huge second-half rally to down the Lady Knights after trailing at halftime. Miller scores 24 to lead the team.

 

The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team traveled to Southern University at New Orleans on Tuesday night, where a dominant second half by the Wolf Pack would lead to the road team securing a 78-58 victory.

 

The win marks the 200th career victory for Loyola head coach Kellie Kennedy in her tenth season with the program. Kennedy became the winningest basketball coach in Loyola history in November of 2016.

 

The Wolf Pack women's basketball team improves to 5-3 on the season with the win. SUNO drops to 2-3.

 

The final score ended up being a runaway for the visiting Pack, but the first half was closely contested, featuring five ties and five lead changes. The largest lead of the half was just five points, held by SUNO with 2:50 to go in the second quarter. Zoie Miller (SR/Frisco, Texas) led the Wolf Pack with 10 points at the half, as the team shot 41.4% on 12-29 from the floor. Although SUNO shot a lower percentage at 38.5%, the home team also made more shots from the field, going 15-39 as the Lady Knights took a 38-34 lead into halftime.

 

In the second half, the visiting Wolf Pack flipped the script, opening up the third quarter with a 9-0 run to take a lead which never dwindled for the remainder of the game. Loyola would go on to outscore SUNO 21-7 in the third quarter alone and 54-20 for the entire second half.

 

Zoie Miller led the Wolf Pack for the game with 24 points on 8-15 shooting (53.3%), including 14 second-half points. Miller also led the team in steals, logging two on the night.

 

Kaila Anthony (SO/Pflugerville, Texas) turned in an incredibly efficient offensive night, going 8-10 (80%) from the floor, including a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc, while also assisting on four baskets. Anthony also was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with nine boards, including two on the offensive end.

 

Di'Mond Jackson (SR/Baton Rouge, La.) was on triple-double watch all night, but just missed it after finishing with nine points to go along with game highs of eight assists and 11 rebounds.

 

Megan Worry (JR/Houston, Texas) finished third on the team with 13 points, including two makes from long range. She also finished with a game-high of three blocks.

 

For the home team, Briana Upshur led the Lady Knights with 13 points to go along with a team-high six assists. Talaih Robertson finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and Andriel Moss added 10 points.

 

Loyola's next game comes on Nov. 30 as the Wolf Pack travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on William Carey at 5:30 p.m.
