In spite of promising play by the Wolf Pack, the women's team loses to ranked Xavier University on Sunday evening.
The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team made the short trip across town to the Xavier University Tennis Center for a matchup against No. 19 Xavier University on Sunday.
Despite a convincing 6-3 victory in an exhibition match against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday, the women's squad was unable to repeat their performance, ultimately falling to its ranked opponents 9-0 on Sunday evening.
In the doubles competition, Koral Martinez (SO/Lajas, Puerto Rico) and Nadja Ochsner (FR/Stein, Switzerland) commanded the No. 1 matchup against Xavier's Lacee Ancar and Emma Kranendonk. In spite of multiple tough plays made by the Wolf Pack, the duo fell to Xavier's number one doubles team 8-4.
In singles competition, Ochsner paced Loyola in her matchup, but was unable to muster a victory falling to Krannendonk 6-1,6-4 at first singles.
The women's team will next travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on Southeastern University. The Wolf Pack is set to take the court at 11 a.m. on Feb. 4.
