The Wolf Pack will continue their tough stretch of games by facing another top ten ranked program in No. 1 Auburn University- Montgomery on Satruday April 9
(Mobile, Ala.)- The Loyola University New Orleans women's tennis team competed in two matches on Sunday as a part of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Round-Up.
The Wolf Pack dropped both matches to go 0-3 overall in their second round-up of the season.
It was Martin Methodist College who Loyola faced in the morning session, and earned the sweep over the Pack, 9-0.
Margaret Adams (FR/Fairhope, Ala.) was the most impressive contributor for the Wolf Pack on Sunday morning. She lost a heartbreaker in the No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-2, and then teamed up with Isabel Junqueira to take a game in the No. 2 doubles competition, eventually falling 8-1. Junquiera, the No. 4 singles player, managed to win two games in the second set but lost in straight sets.
Alexa Mancuso (JR/Leawood, Kan.) and Lauren Rosales (JR/San Antonio, Texas) competed in the No. 1 double position and fell 8-0. Mancuso played the No. 2 singles match and, after losing the first set 6-0, won two games in the second set before losing 6-2. Rosales dropped her No. 3 singles match in straight sets.
Anna Katherine Brunini (FR/Madison, Miss.) and Natavia Mitchell (FR/Austin, Texas) won their first games of the year in singles, competition, but both fell in straight sets. They also used their familiarity with each other from volleyball to form the No. 3 doubles position but were unable to capture a win.
In the afternoon session, the Wolf Pack faced off with No. 7-ranked Middle Georgia State. This the second ranked opponent that Loyola drew this weekend after playing the No. 6-ranked Brenau University on Saturday.
Adams and Junqueira, once again, highlighted the match for Loyola by capturing two games in an 8-2 No. 2 doubles position loss.
Mancuso, after combining with Rosales for an 8-0 doubles loss in the top position, took a game in her singles competition but lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Brunini continued to showcase her progress by taking a game from her singles opponent in the No. 5 position but fell in straight sets. She also dropped her doubles match with Mitchell, 8-0.
Adams, Rosales, Junquiera, and Mitchell all dropped their singles matches in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
"The women played some good tennis today," assistant coach Meghan de Baroncelli said in regards to the Wolf Pack's day. "We showed improvement in the areas we have been working on in practice, despite playing some tough opponents."
The Wolf Pack will return to Mobile, Alabama on Saturday, April 9, to face-off with No. 1-ranked Auburn University- Montgomery.
