The Wolf Pack's next match will be a dual-match against Schreiner University on March 16 at City Park Tennis Center
NEW ORLEANS, LA.- The Loyola University New Orleans Women's Tennis team hosted No. 18 LSU-Alexandria at City Park Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolf Pack were coming off of their first victory of the season against Louisiana College on Saturday and were looking to improve against a ranked opponent. They lost the match, 9-0, but continued to make strides as a team.
"Today we played a very good LSU-Alexandria team that is a legitimate top-20 team," head coach Kyle Russell said after the match. "We wanted to put up a good fight and continue to improve. I feel like we definitely did that and kept taking the steps we would like to as a team."
Fr. Margaret Adams (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope) and Fr. Isabel Junqueria took a game from their opponent in the No. 2 doubles' match but lost 8-1. Adams has consistently improved every match this season, and despite the loss, was impressive in her singles competition.
Jr. Alex Mancuso (Leawood, Kan./Saint James) played well against a strong opponent in the No. 2 singles' position but fell in straight sets. She also competed alongside fellow junior Lauren Rosales (San Antonio, Tex./Incarnate Word High School) in the No. 1 doubles' match, falling in straight sets.
Fr. Maddie Huekels (Dyer, In./Marian Catholic) and Fr. Natavia Mitchell (Austin, Tex./Round Rock) competed as a doubles' pair and individually in singles matches. Huekels and Mitchell were both setters on the Loyola Volleyball team and joined Fr. Anna Katherine Brunini (Madison, Miss./Madison Central) as dual-sport athletes from the volleyball program.
The Wolf Pack will host Schreiner University in a dual-match on March 16 at City Park Tennis Center starting at 1:00 pm.
