Loyola baseball completes three-game sweep of DIII Rust College

Wolf Pack take game three 19-4 at Segnette Field.

The Loyola University New Orleans Baseball team capped off its season-opening series on Friday, welcoming DIII Rust College to Segnette Field for a single game.

After two dominating victories over the Bearcats yesterday, the Wolf Pack completed the series sweep with an impressive 19-4 victory on Friday.

Following the victory, Loyola improves to 3-0 to start the 2016 season.

SO. OF Rawlings Elam (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas High) went 2-for-2 in the win and tied for the team lead with three RBI. Jr. IF Luis Angiuzola (David, Chiriqui, Panama/Colegio San Agustin) also collected three RBI, while Jr. IF Britt Pellegrin (Bourg, La./South Terrebonne) notched a team-best three runs.

On the mound, Jr. RHP Jordan Green (Shreveport, La./ Byrd) (1-0) gets the win after allowing only one hit and no runs in 3.0 innings pitched.

The Wolf Pack jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Angiuzola sent a double to center field to score Elam and R-Jr. OFBlake Toscano (Metairie, La./Holy Cross)Angiuzola later scored on a RBI single by Pellegrin, which also scored So. IF Ben Condara (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas), to extend the advantage to 4-0. The Wolf Pack kept the bases loaded for a majority of the inning and were able to manufacture four more runs to bring the cushion to 8-0 after one half inning. In all, Loyola went through its lineup twice and recorded four hits in the first inning.

With the score still reading 8-0 heading into the bottom of the second, the Wolf Pack started the put the game even further out of reach in the bottom of the inning. Loyola pelted Rust's pitching for seven more in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 15-0.

On the mound, Green kept the Wolf Pack defense focused by only allowing one hit in the first three innings.

In the bottom of the third, Loyola loaded the bases with no outs. Back-to-back walks and an error put three more on the board and the Wolf Pack went up 17-0 in the third inning without an out. When the final out was recorded, Loyola led 19-0 heading into the fourth.

Rust put up three runs in the top of the fourth to bring the score to 19-3 entering the home half of the inning.

Loyola's first scoreless inning came in the fourth, as the Wolf Pack left two on base to keep the score at 19-3.

The remainder of the game saw Rust tally one more run to bring the final score to 19-4 on Friday evening.

In the win, Loyola recorded 12 hits and 17 RBI while walking 13 times.

The Wolf Pack will travel to take on Louisiana College on Monday, Feb. 8, in a doubleheader set to start at 2:00 p.m. Loyola then travels to Florida for a three-game series at Webber International starting on February 12.
