(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team took down conference opponent William Carey University 63-47 this afternoon in The Den. The Wolf Pack won both their games against the Crusaders this season.
The Wolf Pack were up by just four points (33-29) going into the second half, but back-to-back three-pointers by seniors Janeicia Neely and Megan Whittaker brought the Pack's lead to 10 with 18:23 left in the game. The Crusaders would make their next two field goals to cut the deficit to six with 15:54 to go, but the Wolf Pack responded by going on a 9-0 run over the next four minutes, bringing the score to 48-33 with 11:41 remaining. Loyola would remain ahead of the Crusaders by 11 or more points for the remainder of the game, going up by as much as 18 with 1:30 remaining.
Neely recorded a double-double in the win with 17 points and a career-high 12 assists to lead the Wolf Pack (23-2, 14-2 SSAC) on offense. She shot 50% from the field and also grabbed three rebounds. Sophomore Meghan Temple posted her 10th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She went 5-of-7 from the field and also dished out three assists and collected two steals in the win. Whittaker and sophomore Briana Oglesby chipped in eight points apiece, while junior Adrianne Sloboh recorded six rebounds on the day.
The Wolf Pack shot an impressive 53% from the field against the Crusaders and converted nine of their 16 three-point attempts. Loyola's defensive pressure forced William Carey to shoot only 31% from the field and a lowly 7% from beyond the arc.
Keoshya Wilson led the Crusaders' (10-13, 7-10 SSAC) with 18 points on 44% shooting. She also guided the defensive effort with eight rebounds, while Tiffany Sims and Khadejah Buxton added seven and six, respectively. Buxton also dished out four assists and tallied six steals on the day.
The Wolf Pack will resume action on Thursday, February 26 as they take on SSAC rival Bethel University in The Den at 5:30 p.m.
