Loyola women's basketball downs Mobiles behind Temple's fifth double-double

Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball took down conference opponent University of Mobile 74-60 this afternoon in The Den. Sophomore Meghan Temple recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds.

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball took down conference opponent University of Mobile 74-60 this afternoon in The Den. Sophomore Meghan Temple recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The Rams posted the first points of the game, but the Wolf Pack quickly responded with a three-point field goal made by senior Megan Whittaker one minute into the first half. Loyola went up by as much as seven (18-11) with 10:46 remaining off a jumper by senior Janeicia Neely. The Rams responded, going up by two (19-21) with 6:31 remaining in the first. For the next few minutes, Loyola and Mobile would exchange leads, but the Rams would go ahead to end the first half 32-30.

Mobile continued to press the offense to begin the second half, going up by four (34-30) 30 seconds in. The Wolf Pack regained the lead (41-40) with 14:45 to go in the game off a driving layup by senior Rebekah Greer, and Loyola remained ahead of the Rams for the rest of the afternoon. Loyola jumped out by 10 (67-57) with 2:40 left off Whittaker's sixth three-pointer of the game and took its largest lead of the night (17) with under a minute to play.

Temple led the way for the Wolf Pack with 24 points - only two points shy of her career-high (26) set earlier this season. She went 9-of-13 from the field and grabbed five offensive and five defensive rebounds to lead the Wolf Pack on both sides of the ball. Whittaker drained six shots from beyond of arc (6-of-12), finishing the night with 20 points. Her six three-pointers marked a season-high for Whittaker, only one short of her career-high set last season. Fellow senior Janeicia Neely chipped in 12 points, going 5-of-11 from the field, while senior Rebekah Greer added eight. Greer also dished out four assists in the win.

The Wolf Pack (19-1, 10-1 SSAC) finished the game shooting 47% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc with the help of Whittaker's six threes. The Rams finished the day shooting 37% from the field, but were held to 25% from three-point range. Loyola's defense forced the Rams into a staggering 17% three-point field goal percentage in the second half.

Four members of the Rams scored in double-digits led by Taneequa Myers' 14. Myers also led the defensive effort with an impressive 17 rebounds. O'Neal Session recorded 13 points, while Kali Koenig and Jakela Johnson posted 11 and 10, respectively. Session and Johnson also compiled four assists apiece.

Loyola will return to action on Thursday, February 5 at 5:30 p.m. in Jackson, Mississippi as they take on SSAC opponent Belhaven University.
