Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball defeated Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) opponent Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) 69-60 this afternoon for their 12th consecutive victory of the season. The Wolf Pack remains the sole undefeated team in the SSAC and one of three unbeaten teams in NAIA Division I.
Loyola led throughout the entire first half, with their biggest lead of the half occurring at 6:49 with a three-point field goal by redshirt sophomore Briana Oglesby. The Warhawks fought back to cut the deficit to two (38-36) going into the second half. The second half of play brought constant back-and-forth action between the two teams, resulting in five ties and four lead changes. With roughly three minutes remaining, the Wolf Pack began to dominate offensively, eventually leading to a 69-60 victory over the Warhawks.
Oglesby, along with senior Janeicia Neely, paced the Pack on offense, tallying 16 points apiece. Oglesby recorded an impressive 0.6667 field goal percentage, going 6-of-9 from the field, while Neely shot 50% (7-of-14) and dished out five assists. Junior Adrianne Sloboh posted double-digit points with 11 on the night, while also grabbing eight boards. Sophomore Meghan Temple also notched eight rebounds in the win.
The Wolf Pack (12-0, 5-0 SSAC) shot 49% from the field compared to the Warhawks' 36%. Loyola also outrebounded AUM 40 to 31.
The Warhawks (11-5, 3-2 SSAC) had three players record double-digit point totals, led by Reggotta Craig's 15. Kaylan Withrow and Shanice Burnette tallied 14 points apiece, while Gabby Brown drove the defensive effort with eight rebounds on the night.
Loyola will resume play on Wednesday, January 7 when they take on local rival Xavier University in the Convocation Center at 7 p.m.
