(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball took down local rival Dillard University 63-58 tonight for their 11th consecutive victory of the 2014-15 season. The Pack is one of three teams in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I to remain unbeaten this season.
Senior Megan Whittaker paced Loyola's scoring effort against the Bleu Devils, finishing the night with 15 points (5-9), all of which came from beyond the arc. Fellow senior Rebekah Greer also notched double-digit points, compiling 12 points on 50% shooting. Whittaker and Greer also added three rebounds apiece. Redshirt sophomore Briana Oglesby chipped in 10 points. Sophomore Caroline Gonzalez secured the glass for the Pack, grabbing seven boards, while junior Adrianne Sloboh added six rebounds in the win.
Only two members of the Bleu Devils recorded double-digit point totals, led by Alena Evans' 14. Evan's also posted seven rebounds on the night. Shantrell Lumar added 12 points, while Ciara Morgan led the defensive effort with nine rebounds.
The Pack shot 46% from the field and an impressive 43% from three-point range. Loyola's strong inside presence forced Dillard to take 19 three-pointers, converting only one (.0526). The Bleu Devils also shot a rough 30% from the field. Loyola recorded five blocks on the evening in comparison to Dillard's one.
Loyola will resume action on Saturday, January 3 for their first game of 2015 when they take on SSAC opponent Auburn University at Montgomery at 3 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.
