(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball will host cross-town rival Dillard University tonight, November 25 at 5:30 p.m. in The Den.
The Wolf Pack is returning home from an impressive conference weekend in Georgia. Loyola downed College of Coastal Georgia 112-73 on Friday night before defeating Brewton-Parker College 102-44 on Saturday afternoon. The Pack's 112-point victory against Coastal Georgia set a women's basketball program record for most points scored in a single game.
Senior Janeicia Neely leads the Wolf Pack (5-0) on offense, averaging 17.4 points per game on 59% shooting. Neely is also averaging 4.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game on the season. She received SSAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week of November 17-24 and was also named Kentwood Springs Student Athlete of the Week. Neely reached 1,000 career points with the Pack on Saturday against Coastal Georgia, and Loyola will honor her tonight during halftime of the men's game.
Sophomore Meghan Temple leads the Pack in rebounds and is averaging a double-double, with 13.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Redshirt sophomore Briana Oglesby also aids the Pack on offense, contributing double-digit point totals in three of Loyola's past five contests. Junior Adrianne Sloboh helps secure the glass alongside Temple with 40 rebounds over five games.
Dillard (5-3) is coming off a 62-58 victory over University of St. Thomas (Texas) on Saturday. Junior Alena Evans drives the Bleu Devils scoring effort, averaging 11.8 points per game on the season. She also heads the defense with 55 total rebounds on the year, while senior Ciara Morgan aids the defensive effort with 48 boards. Sophomore Shantrell Lumar leads the Bleu Devils in assists and steals, compiling 25 and 18, respectively.
Loyola trails Dillard in the all-time series 19-20, but was victorious in both contests against the Bleu Devils last season. The Wolf Pack has been dominant in recent years and are 11-1 versus the Bleu Devils in the Kellie Kennedy era of Loyola women's basketball.
This month Loyola and Tulane have joined together to support Stop Hunger Now, an organization dedicated to international hunger relief. Stop Hunger Now has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families all over the world. Fans are encouraged to help Loyola athletics in supporting this cause by donating canned foods at tonight's games and all remaining November home games. Donations can be dropped off in a collection bin located at the entrance of The Den.
