The Wolf Pack defeated the University of Pittsburgh

9/28/2026 10:37:00 AM

Loyola University New Orleans Esports battled through a back-and-forth five-map Overwatch series against the University of Pittsburgh, ultimately securing a 3-2 victory after closing the match with a strong performance on Esperança.

Loyola's lineup featured Matthew Marshall "ZHAYE," Braden Garfield "TATO," Maya Hernandez "Siren," Conner Zimmerman "Takeout" and Steven Litkenhaus "QUORKED."

Map 1 — Samoa

Loyola opened the series with a convincing 2-0 victory on Samoa.

The Wolf Pack started with ZHAYE on Vendetta, TATO on Lúcio, Siren on Kiriko, Takeout on Shion and QUORKED on Junker Queen.

Loyola immediately established control in the opening round, taking the objective first and building an early lead. QUORKED helped set the pace with an early elimination as Loyola pushed forward and attempted to keep Pittsburgh away from the point.

Pittsburgh eventually broke through and briefly gained control, but Loyola had already reached 32%.

After regrouping, Takeout helped open the next engagement with an elimination on Thanatos' Lúcio. Loyola retook the objective and became increasingly aggressive, pushing Pittsburgh backward rather than simply waiting for the next fight on point.

That pressure allowed Loyola to cross 50% while controlling much of the available space.

QUORKED later committed Rampage during a key engagement, helping Loyola extend its advantage to roughly 75%. Takeout followed with Satsuriku Spree on Shion, helping remove multiple Pittsburgh players and keeping Loyola in command.

Pittsburgh eventually forced Loyola away from the point, but by then Loyola had already reached 99%. Pittsburgh climbed to approximately 50% before the Wolf Pack regrouped for one final engagement.

ZHAYE helped initiate the deciding push, Loyola overwhelmed Pittsburgh and quickly reclaimed the point. The objective went into overtime at 99%, but Pittsburgh was unable to extend the round and Loyola secured the first point.

The second round followed a similar pattern.

Pittsburgh adjusted its composition while Loyola remained with the same five heroes. Both sides exchanged eliminations in the opening fight, but Loyola again created enough space to capture first.

Pittsburgh answered after Loyola reached 21%, but ZHAYE helped break open the next engagement on Vendetta and Loyola regained control with the percentages nearly even.

The Wolf Pack began pulling away through the middle of the round. Siren's Kitsune Rush helped Loyola maintain its aggression, while QUORKED and Takeout continued putting pressure on Pittsburgh's frontline.

As Loyola moved beyond 80%, Pittsburgh was forced into a must-win fight.

ZHAYE delivered one of the strongest individual engagements of the map, securing three eliminations before Takeout helped finish the remaining Pittsburgh players.

The cleanup sealed the 2-0 Samoa victory and gave Loyola a 1-0 lead in the match.

Map 2 — Junkertown

Pittsburgh answered on Junkertown in an Escort battle that required additional attacking rounds to determine a winner.

Loyola began on defense with ZHAYE on Tracer, TATO on Jetpack Cat, Siren on Ana, Takeout on Sojourn and QUORKED on D.Mon.

Pittsburgh immediately found more success attacking than it had on Samoa. Its Baptiste helped keep the backline alive through Loyola's early attempts to find picks, allowing Pittsburgh to repeatedly push Loyola backward.

Pittsburgh reached the first checkpoint with nearly five minutes remaining and continued applying pressure into the second section.

Loyola began finding more opportunities as the defense continued.

TATO used Jetpack Cat to isolate Pittsburgh's Sojourn and pull the hero into Loyola's formation for a quick elimination. Later, TATO used Jetpack Cat's mobility to carry Takeout into position after a switch to Cassidy, allowing Takeout to use Deadeye from an unexpected angle.

The play produced two eliminations, while ZHAYE followed with a Pulse Bomb that helped remove two more Pittsburgh players.

Siren then committed Nano Boost onto QUORKED as Loyola attempted to halt the push.

Despite the resistance, Pittsburgh secured the second checkpoint with 3:20 remaining.

On the final section of Junkertown, Loyola struggled to maintain a stable defensive formation against Pittsburgh's continued pressure. The Wolf Pack found several individual eliminations, but Pittsburgh consistently created favorable fights and completed the map with 1:39 left on the clock.

Loyola looked considerably stronger when the sides switched.

The Wolf Pack opened its attack with ZHAYE on Freja, TATO on Zenyatta, Siren on Baptiste, Takeout on Ashe and QUORKED on Hazard.

Loyola found an early elimination on Pittsburgh's Jetpack Cat and immediately began moving the payload.

QUORKED pressured Pittsburgh's frontline while TATO remained near the objective to maintain progress. Loyola reached the first checkpoint with approximately 5:15 remaining.

Pittsburgh attempted to slow Loyola by controlling the high ground, but the Wolf Pack continued finding eliminations and steadily pushed the defense backward.

Takeout remained with the payload while the rest of Loyola pushed ahead to create space, allowing Loyola to reach the second checkpoint with another 5:15 remaining.

The aggression continued through the final section.

Takeout deployed B.O.B. during one of the closing engagements, with B.O.B. helping eliminate Pittsburgh's Junker Queen. QUORKED pressured the opposing Tracer while Siren helped keep Loyola's frontline alive.

Loyola completed the entire map with 3:28 remaining, giving the Wolf Pack a significant time-bank advantage.

Pittsburgh attacked first in the additional rounds.

Pittsburgh broke Loyola's initial defense and captured the first checkpoint with only 32 seconds remaining before extending its push well into the second section.

Loyola eventually stopped the payload short of the next checkpoint.

With 3:28 available for its final attack, Loyola had substantially more time but struggled to break Pittsburgh's high-ground defense.

TATO secured an early elimination on Pittsburgh's Sojourn, but Pittsburgh repeatedly answered Loyola's attempts to advance.

QUORKED switched to Domina as Loyola searched for another way through.

The breakthrough eventually came through a Nano Boost and Dragonblade combination from Siren and ZHAYE. ZHAYE eliminated both Ashe and Baptiste, TATO followed with an elimination on Junker Queen and Loyola reached the first checkpoint with just 34 seconds remaining.

Pittsburgh regrouped on the second section.

Takeout committed B.O.B. and both teams used several ultimates in the final engagement, but Pittsburgh won the exchange and stopped Loyola before the Wolf Pack could match Pittsburgh's additional distance.

The Junkertown result tied the series at 1-1.

Map 3 — Suravasa

Loyola responded immediately on Suravasa, winning a five-point Flashpoint battle 3-2.

The Wolf Pack returned to ZHAYE on Tracer, TATO on Lúcio, Siren on Kiriko, Takeout on Shion and QUORKED on Junker Queen.

Siren opened the map with an early elimination on Pittsburgh's Cassidy, while Loyola quickly destroyed Pittsburgh's Immortality Field and forced the opposing team backward.

Loyola captured the first Flashpoint and built approximately 30% before Pittsburgh could mount a meaningful response.

ZHAYE later helped eliminate both Cassidy and Thanatos' Lúcio, while Takeout contributed another elimination on Pittsburgh's Junker Queen.

Pittsburgh never established control of the opening objective, allowing Loyola to claim the first Flashpoint without surrendering any percentage.

The second objective was much more competitive.

Siren committed Kitsune Rush as the point prepared to open, and Loyola won the initial fight after Takeout helped secure three quick eliminations.

Pittsburgh responded during the next engagement.

QUORKED used Rampage, but Grimshadow, who had switched to Kiriko, responded with Protection Suzu and neutralized much of the ultimate's impact.

That opened the door for Pittsburgh to turn the fight and take control.

Pittsburgh maintained the advantage long enough to complete the objective after Loyola had reached 48%, evening the map at 1-1.

Loyola answered on the third Flashpoint.

The Wolf Pack removed Thanatos' Lúcio during the opening fight and secured first control.

Both teams then invested heavily in ultimates. Kitsune Rush came out from both sides before QUORKED used Rampage. Thanatos responded with Sound Barrier, but Pittsburgh was unable to swing the engagement and was again pushed backward.

Pittsburgh later committed its own Junker Queen ultimate, while TATO answered with Sound Barrier to keep Loyola alive.

Takeout followed with a key Shion ultimate that helped remove Thanatos and force Pittsburgh into retreat.

Pittsburgh attempted a late touch, but Loyola denied the contest and secured its second Flashpoint for a 2-1 advantage.

The fourth point appeared ready to close the map for Loyola.

The Wolf Pack opened by eliminating Pittsburgh's Lúcio and Junker Queen and secured the objective first.

Takeout became a major factor in the following fight, securing three eliminations on Shion as Loyola extended its control through 65%.

Loyola eventually reached 99%, leaving the team one successful fight away from winning the map.

Pittsburgh refused to give up the objective.

A Kitsune Rush helped repel Loyola's next attempt, and Pittsburgh began steadily building percentage. What initially appeared to be a short Pittsburgh hold developed into a full comeback as Loyola struggled to find a clean route back onto the point.

Pittsburgh climbed from 40% through 85% while keeping Loyola at a distance.

ZHAYE attempted a late touch to extend the point, but Pittsburgh denied the effort and completed a comeback from 0-99 to tie the map 2-2.

The series on Suravasa came down to the fifth and final Flashpoint.

Loyola immediately responded to the lost opportunity.

Before the objective had even opened, QUORKED secured an early elimination on IMJAKINIT's Junker Queen. Loyola used the advantage to establish forward positioning and prepare to meet Pittsburgh before it could comfortably reach the objective.

Once the point opened, Loyola captured first.

QUORKED landed Rampage across multiple Pittsburgh players, forcing them backward, while ZHAYE added another elimination as Loyola pushed Pittsburgh toward its spawn.

Loyola reached 50% before Pittsburgh eventually found its way back into the fight.

Grimshadow's Kitsune Rush helped Pittsburgh advance, while both teams committed defensive ultimates. TATO used Sound Barrier to protect Loyola from Pittsburgh's Shion pressure, and Thanatos responded with Sound Barrier for Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh eventually forced Loyola from the objective, but Loyola had already reached 91%.

The Wolf Pack regrouped for one final push.

ZHAYE found the opening elimination before Takeout followed by cleaning up several more Pittsburgh players. The fight quickly collapsed around Pittsburgh's remaining Junker Queen.

With the point in overtime, Pittsburgh's Lúcio and Tracer made repeated attempts to keep the objective alive, but Loyola denied the final touches.

The 3-2 Suravasa victory gave Loyola a 2-1 lead in the overall match.

Map 4 — Eichenwalde

Pittsburgh again evened the series on Eichenwalde after shutting Loyola out on its opening attack.

Pittsburgh entered the map with CNRREG on Cassidy, Levsha on Sigma, Thanatos on Juno, SIMIAN on Tracer and Grimshadow on Ana.

Loyola opened with ZHAYE on Mei, TATO initially on Brigitte before switching to Lúcio, Siren on Ana, Takeout on Cassidy and QUORKED on Domina.

Pittsburgh established a strong defensive line around the opening choke and bridge.

QUORKED attempted to pressure Levsha's Sigma and create opportunities with Domina, but Pittsburgh repeatedly escaped Loyola's attempts to isolate the tank.

Takeout was caught by Levsha during one of Loyola's first pushes, and Pittsburgh continued using the narrow approach to separate Loyola's engagements.

ZHAYE found an elimination on Cassidy during a later attempt, giving Loyola an opening to move forward, but Pittsburgh recovered.

Sigma's ultimate disrupted another Loyola push, while Takeout attempted to create space with Deadeye.

The Wolf Pack continued searching for a decisive first elimination, but Pittsburgh consistently forced Loyola into multiple smaller fights rather than allowing the team to engage together.

That separation proved costly.

Pittsburgh repeatedly created numbers advantages across the objective, forcing Loyola to spend resources simply keeping individual players alive.

TATO committed an aggressive Sound Barrier during one of Loyola's later pushes. Loyola managed to eliminate Levsha and Pittsburgh's Tracer during the exchange, but Pittsburgh answered by removing TATO, ZHAYE and Takeout.

With only Siren and QUORKED remaining, Loyola could not create enough pressure to complete the capture.

Pittsburgh held the first point for the entire round, leaving Loyola without any capture progress and giving the Wolf Pack a difficult defensive task.

Loyola now needed to prevent Pittsburgh from reaching the required capture threshold.

The Wolf Pack set up with ZHAYE on Pharah, TATO on Zenyatta, Siren on Ana, Takeout on Sojourn and QUORKED on Sigma.

Loyola opened the defense well.

ZHAYE applied early damage around Pittsburgh's spawn while Levsha attempted to enter on Winston. TATO and ZHAYE quickly punished the dive and eliminated Levsha.

QUORKED followed by removing CNRREG's Cassidy, while ZHAYE also found SIMIAN's Tracer.

Levsha switched from Winston to Sigma in an attempt to provide more consistent frontline pressure.

Takeout added another elimination onto Cassidy and later removed Thanatos' Juno as Loyola continued controlling the choke.

For a time, the Wolf Pack appeared capable of forcing a fifth map without allowing Pittsburgh meaningful progress.

The decisive opening came when Levsha eliminated Takeout.

Loyola began falling backward, leaving QUORKED isolated on the bridge. Pittsburgh surrounded the Loyola tank and eventually secured the elimination.

That gave Pittsburgh the space needed to reach the objective.

With Loyola unable to reestablish its defensive formation before Pittsburgh secured the required capture progress, Eichenwalde went to Pittsburgh.

The victory tied the match 2-2 and sent the series to a deciding fifth map.

Map 5 — Esperança

With the entire match on the line, Loyola delivered one of its strongest starts of the series on Esperança.

Pittsburgh opened with CNRREG on Cassidy, Levsha on Orisa, Thanatos on Juno, SIMIAN on Tracer and Grimshadow on Baptiste.

Loyola countered with ZHAYE on Vendetta, TATO on Jetpack Cat, Siren on Ana, Takeout on Sojourn and QUORKED on D.Mon.

The Wolf Pack reached the robot quickly and immediately took control of the opening fight.

TATO and QUORKED attacked Pittsburgh from a different angle while the rest of Loyola pressured from the front. The split attack forced Pittsburgh backward and resulted in nearly the entire team being eliminated.

Levsha was left as the final Pittsburgh player alive, allowing Loyola to stagger the tank before beginning its first push.

Loyola quickly reached approximately 25 meters.

ZHAYE then began applying pressure through Esperança's side corridors, finding Pittsburgh's Baptiste before also eliminating SIMIAN's Tracer.

With ZHAYE, QUORKED and TATO aggressively creating space ahead of the robot, Takeout remained on the objective while Siren supported the push from behind.

The combination allowed Loyola to reach the first checkpoint and extend its lead beyond 50 meters.

Pittsburgh switched Levsha onto D.Mon in an attempt to answer Loyola's aggression.

The adjustment did little to slow the Wolf Pack initially.

When Levsha attempted to work around Loyola from behind, TATO used Jetpack Cat to pull the Pittsburgh tank out of position and send Levsha off the map.

Loyola continued moving forward and soon crossed 100 meters.

Siren then committed Nano Boost onto QUORKED during another major engagement.

Pittsburgh answered with Deadeye and managed to eliminate TATO, but Loyola's aggressive setup around the Nano-boosted QUORKED overwhelmed the remaining defense.

The Wolf Pack secured a full team wipe and pushed the robot deep toward Pittsburgh's spawn.

Loyola eventually established a massive 133-meter advantage.

Pittsburgh, however, began mounting a comeback.

Levsha changed heroes again, while CNRREG moved onto Bastion. The new setup allowed Pittsburgh to finally gain sustained possession of the robot.

Loyola attempted to interrupt the push through several different looks.

Takeout used Sojourn's Overclock to secure damage and eliminations, while TATO and QUORKED repeatedly worked together to pressure from unexpected angles.

One of those defensive fights allowed Loyola to halt Pittsburgh at only 16 meters, compared with Loyola's 133.

ZHAYE later used Vendetta's ultimate to force Pittsburgh backward and create more breathing room.

TATO followed by using Jetpack Cat to pull CNRREG's Bastion out of a small room and place the hero in a vulnerable position, allowing Loyola to secure the elimination and briefly regain control of the map.

Pittsburgh continued finding ways back into the fight.

A later combination of Pittsburgh ultimates again broke Loyola's formation, and the closer Pittsburgh moved toward its own spawn, the faster its eliminated players were able to return to the fight.

ZHAYE attempted another Vendetta ultimate from the high ground but was immediately pressured by Pittsburgh's Juno ultimate and Bastion.

Pittsburgh reached 53 meters with roughly two minutes remaining, while Loyola still held its 133-meter benchmark.

Loyola tried another offensive adjustment, with ZHAYE switching to Bastion and receiving Nano Boost from Siren. Pittsburgh's Baptiste answered with Immortality Field and kept the play from finding the eliminations Loyola needed.

ZHAYE then moved to Reaper as Pittsburgh's momentum continued.

Pittsburgh eventually crossed 100 meters, threatening what had once appeared to be an insurmountable Loyola lead.

The Wolf Pack responded when it mattered most.

TATO pulled QUORKED back into a safer position before Siren placed Nano Boost onto the Loyola tank. TATO, QUORKED and Takeout then combined to eliminate Pittsburgh's remaining players and regain control of the robot.

Siren began pushing while the rest of Loyola moved ahead to prevent Pittsburgh from setting up comfortably.

Pittsburgh attempted one final coordinated ultimate combination, managing to remove Takeout but failing to find the remaining eliminations necessary to continue the comeback.

Time expired with Pittsburgh at approximately 100 meters and Loyola still holding the 133-meter lead.

Loyola secured Esperança, completing the 3-2 match victory.

Final — Loyola 3, Pittsburgh 2

The five-map series featured repeated momentum swings.

Loyola controlled Samoa to take the opening lead before Pittsburgh answered on Junkertown. Loyola survived a full five-point battle on Suravasa to move ahead 2-1, only for Pittsburgh's Eichenwalde defense to force the deciding map.

On Esperança, Loyola built its largest advantage of the match with an aggressive opening push. Pittsburgh cut deeply into that lead during the second half of the map, but Loyola recovered in the final minutes and protected its 133-meter mark to secure the series.

Across the five maps, Loyola showed an ability to adjust compositions, create aggressive off-angles and recover after losing momentum. ZHAYE and Takeout supplied repeated elimination pressure, TATO and Siren created key opportunities through support play and ultimate timing, and QUORKED consistently served as the centerpiece of Loyola's frontline.

The result gave Loyola University New Orleans Esports a 3-2 victory over the University of Pittsburgh.
