Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s tennis season ends at NAIA National Championship

Loyola, which was making its first appearance in the tournament, finishes the season with an 8-6 overall record

MOBILE, Ala. – After securing the program's first ever win at the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship on Tuesday, the No. 19 seed Loyola Wolf Pack continued play at the tournament Tuesday with a second-round matchup with No. 3 seed Keiser.

The Seahawks picked up wins on the top two doubles courts, then the top two singles courts, as well as court 5 in singles to earn a 4-0 result.

Loyola, which was making its first appearance in the national tournament, finishes the season with an 8-6 overall record. It's the team's first season finishing over .500 since the 2018 campaign.

Alfredo Gallegos had a lead in the second set in his match on court 3, and Samuel Marin was nearing a tiebreak in the first set in his match on court 4, but both matches went unfinished.

Gallegos went 8-4 in singles during the spring, and so did Marin, as they tied for the team high in singles wins this year.

In doubles, Gallegos and Sam Izrael put together a 9-5 overall record with every match coming at the No. 1 position. That's tied for the most dual match doubles wins by a pair in a single season in program history.

At the end of his two years with the Pack, Izrael put together 17 singles wins and 27 doubles wins across the fall and spring seasons, ending his career with the third-most overall doubles wins in program history. Hippolyte de Preville.

Hippolyte de Preville finished his four-year career with an overall record of 33-33 in singles, the most singles victories in program history, while adding 25 doubles wins.

Senior Sam Izrael

"I'm truly grateful for the two years I've spent at Loyola, and I'm really proud of every single one of us, including the coaches. I wish the best to everyone, and it's now their turn to take over what we've created. Go Wolf Pack!"

Senior Hippolyte de Preville

"When I first got to Loyola, our team was far from being a team like we have now. Over the years, I saw the coaches bring in guys who, over time, changed the culture and the environment of the team. And now after four years I'm able to say we have the best team in program history, with guys from all around the world that are the best people I've been with since I got to Loyola. I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to go to nationals and win for the first time ever with these people that I saw come in and change the program."
