NEW ORLEANS – After taking down No. 11 Dillard on Thursday, the Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team returned to Dillard's tennis courts on Friday to face NCAA Division-II school Drury University, which was in town to play Dillard and Xavier.
Loyola carried momentum from the Dillard win into Friday's match, earning a dominant 7-0 win to improve to 3-2 on the season.
The Pack started by winning all three doubles matches. Hippolyte de Preville and Patrick Teuteberg combined for their second win of the week, 6-2 on court 3. Samuel Marin and Luca Abati scored a 6-2 win on court 2, and Sam Izrael and Alfredo Gallegos earned a 6-4 win, their team-best third win of the year, on court 1.
In singles, all Wolf Pack victories came in straight sets. Izrael picked up his third straight win, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Every other set for the Pack was either 6-0, 6-1, or 6-2, as de Preville, Gallegos, Marin, Abati, and Jett Nguyen all earned singles victories. Nguyen had a clean slate, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Four different players, Gallegos, Marin, Izrael, and Nguyen all collected their third singles wins of the season, while Abati earned his second. Leading the team is De Preville, who improved his record to 4-0 in singles this season 31-27 for his career, tying Ernesto de Diego for most overall wins, fall and spring combined, in Wolf Pack men's tennis history.
Next up for the Wolf Pack is the start of conference play at the SSAC Roundup next week. The slate of three matches begins with Blue Mountain Christian on March 19, followed by Abraham Baldwin on March 20, and concludes against No. 25 Tennessee Southern on March 21. All matches will be in Montgomery, Alabama.
