Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dominant effort Thursday moves Pack’s winning streak to 11

The Wolf Pack women’s basketball team is now 15-2 overall and 7-1 in SSAC play

NEW ORLEANS – The result of Thursday's Southern States Athletic Conference matchup between Loyola New Orleans and Point University (Ga.) was never in doubt. The Wolf Pack built a quick lead and continued to add to it in a 94-30 win over the Skyhawks.

(RV) Loyola (15-2, 7-1 in SSAC) will next hosts Brewton-Parker Christian at 12 p.m. on Saturday for another conference matchup.

After Point scored the first points of the game, it was all Loyola after that. The Pack outscored their guests 23-6 the rest of the first quarter, shooting 10-of-17 from the floor while holding the Skyhawks to 2-for-11 shooting. Alissa O'Dell and Deniya Thornton did the heavy lifting in the first 10 minutes with eight and seven points, respectively. SeQuoia Carroll added five and Caitlin Travis hit a 3-pointer to bring the score to 23-9 heading into the second quarter.

The second quarter was even more dominating for Loyola, winning that frame 29-5 to take a 52-14 lead by halftime. In fact, Loyola had 46 points before Point could get into double digits, as eight different Wolf Pack players scored in the frame. Led by Tiarra McPipe going 4-for-5 with eight points, Loyola shot an impressive 12-for-19 while holding Point to 2-for-13 from the floor. Ava Shields and Madi Walters each contributed five, Jada Washington had three, and Addison Luker, Tiana Smith, Taylor Smith and Kaylee Dublin all scored two points each as well.

Loyola held Point to single digits in the third quarter, too, winning that frame 24-6 to extend the lead to 76-20. The Wolf Pack starters played most of the quarter before taking the fourth quarter off. Thornton scored seven more points, and O'Dell and Travis each added six.

Walters scored eight more points in the fourth quarter to help outscore the Skyhawks 18-10 in the final 10 minutes.
