Women’s basketball moves win streak to 12

The Wolf Pack earned win No. 16 on Saturday in The Den against Brewton-Parker Christian

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's team continued its winning ways on Saturday, defeating Brewton-Parker Christian, 63-50, in The Den for another Southern States Athletic Conference win. Loyola is now 16-2 overall and 8-1 in SSAC play, and it'll host undefeated William Carey on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Alissa O'Dell and Deniya Thornton scored the first points of the game, but Brewton-Parker made five of its next six shots, including three free throws, to jump out to a 15-7 lead. Powered by five points from Madi Walters, though, the Wolf Pack finished the first frame on a 10-0 run to go up 17-15 after 10 minutes of play.

Thornton made it a 12-0 run with the first basket of the second quarter, but both teams went on a scoring drought that saw the score get to 19-19 near the 5:30 mark. O'Dell and Caitlin Travis scored on back-to-back possessions, then Tiarra McPipe made it three consecutive trips down the floor with points after she made a 3-pointer, 26-19. O'Dell scored four more points, and Travis and Thornton each added two to bring Loyola's lead to 34-27 at the break.

Loyola pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Barons 16-9 to take a 50-36 lead into the final frame. Thornton and O'Dell combined to score 13 of those points to help the Wolf Pack take control of the game.

The Barons tried to cut it to a single-digit game, but a 3 by Thornton put a stop to that, 53-39, two minutes into the fourth. Neither team scored for the next three-plus minutes, but O'Dell scored two buckets to make it a 12-point lead, 57-45, with two minutes left. Addison Luker and Travis combined to score the final six points to put away the game.
