MOBILE, Ala. – The 2025 Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis season ended on Thursday in the NAIA National Championship tournament, as No. 3 Lindsey Wilson defeated No. 6 Loyola 4-1 in the quarterfinal. This was the Pack's second consecutive year making the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
Loyola finishes the year with a 17-6 overall record, setting a new program record for wins in a season. The historic 2025 campaign also included the program's first conference championship, its highest overall national ranking, and a record seven All-Conference selections.
Lindsey Wilson came into the match with the best collection of doubles teams in the NAIA, with all three of their pairs ranked in the top 13 in the ITA rankings, including No. 1 overall. The Blue Raiders took the matches on each of the top two courts 6-1 to claim Thursday's doubles point.
Chloe Henderson won the first set of singles competition, 6-0 on court 3. The Blue Raiders won matches on the top two courts before hers could finish, but Henderson eventually got the job done, 6-0, 6-4, to put Loyola's first point on the scoreboard.
The matches on courts 4, 5 and 6 were all tightly contested. Avery Frierson stormed back to win a second-set tiebreak and force a deciding third set, and Avrora Volkova was close to forcing a third set in her match as well, but Lindsey Wilson closed out a narrow win on court 4 to end the match.
Adele Fereres led the Wolf Pack in total victories this season with a 17-3 singles record and 18-3 in doubles, with she and Micaela Ponce going 15-2. Henderson picked up her 16th win of the season Thursday to finish 16-7 on the year. Volkova (12-6) and Frierson (10-5) also posted double-digit singles victories.
Lucy Carpenter's storied Loyola career comes to a close after five seasons in New Orleans. A two-time SSAC Player of the Year, she's played every singles match at the No. 1 position since her freshman year, compiling a 68-31 singles record. She was also a part of some of the best doubles teams in the NAIA, finishing with an 80-25 overall record in doubles. This season, she went 15-4 in singles, reaching a ranking of No. 5 in both singles and doubles. She and Henderson went 19-2 in doubles this year, with their only losses coming against the No. 1-ranked team. Carpenter is the only Wolf Pack student-athlete to ever make First-Team All-Conference and be an NAIA All-American in every year at Loyola.
"The past four years have been way beyond tennis. I've learned so much about myself and my team. These have been the most formative years of my life thus far, and I think I've learned so many lessons from people who I would have never met if I didn't come to Loyola, from all different cultures and backgrounds. Had I not played tennis, and had I not come to Loyola, I would not be the person I am today, and I wouldn't be going to med school. Transferring here and coming on board with the team was the best decision I've ever made.
"Being on this team has taught me what it means to be a family, and it's taught me about how to be resilient. I don't regret anything, this is the best place I could be, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I love these girls so much. Honestly, this team means more to me than the sport itself. I love playing tennis but this team has truly become my family. Go Pack!"
"It has been an honor to be a part of the Wolf Pack. We fought for every moment of this tournament and I am so proud to be next to my sisters."
