No. 16 Knights come back to beat No. 25 Wolf Pack

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 25 Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team fell 5-2 against No. 16 Middle Georgia State on Saturday at the Lagoon Park Tennis Complex. 

Loyola is now 6-6 overall in 2025, 2-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference matches. 

The Knights were able to take the doubles point, though Hippolyte de Preville and Alfredo Gallegos claimed a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. The match score was tied after a big win (6-2, 6-2) from Jett Nguyen at No. 6 singles, though MGA got back ahead with a straight-sets win at the No. 2 spot.  

On the other singles courts, de Preville, Gallegos, and Spencer Matz all won the first set in matches that would eventually be stretched to three sets. De Preville won his match on court 3, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, to put the Pack up 2-1 in the match, but the Knights won on court 1 in straight sets, and they took the other two deciding third sets to close out the match. 

The Wolf Pack will return home for another ranked SSAC matchup next week. The last dual match at New Orleans City Park of the spring season, Loyola will take on No. 7 William Carey at 2 p.m.
