NEW ORLEANS – The No. 25 Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team hosted No. 7 William Carey Wednesday in a Southern States Athletic Conference match at the City Park Tennis Center. Carey won five out of six in singles to take the match 5-2.
The Wolf Pack's record in 2025 is now 6-7, 2-2 in conference play.
It was Senior Day in City Park, and the majority of the Wolf Pack seniors contributed in doubles competition. Hippolyte de Preville and Alfredo Gallegos started doubles with a 6-2 win, and senior Akhil Indrabalan and graduate student Remus Hebhang-Balan ended it, winning 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot to clinch the doubles point. Senior Samuel Motazed and freshman Sam Izrael also played a close match at No. 2 doubles, falling 6-4 against the NAIA's No. 28-ranked doubles team.
Izrael also had to deal with a highly ranked opponent in singles, holding his own on the No. 2 court against the No. 32 singles player but falling 7-5, 7-5.
The lone singles win came from the freshman Gallegos at No. 5 singles in a battle between two players ranked No. 62 and 64 in the ITA individual rankings. His opponent was able to tie the match at 1-1 after coming back to win the second set, but Gallegos closed it in the third, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Fellow freshman Jett Nguyen also went to a third set in his match after winning the first, but his opponent claimed victory in a third set super tiebreak.
Loyola will play one more ranked conference match this week, facing No. 21 Tennessee Southern in Montgomery, Ala. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 5 at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
