No. 8 Loyola rolls over Blue Mountain

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 8 Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team opened the Southern States Athletic Conference schedule in dominant fashion on Friday, winning 7-0 against Blue Mountain Christian University. 

Now 1-0 in conference play, Loyola's women's team owns a 6-1 overall record so far this season. 

The Wolf Pack nearly went perfect in doubles competition Friday, only dropping one total game between the three doubles matches. The pair of Lucy Carpenter and Chloe Henderson, as well as Adele Fereres and Micaela Ponce both earned 6-0 results. Reilly Briggs and Avery Frierson won 6-1 as the Pack swept doubles. 

In singles, the Pack won every match in straight sets, with half the sets ending 6-0 in Loyola's favor and Blue Mountain not winning more than two games in any set.

Frierson was first to finish, winning 6-0, 6-0 on court 6. Avrora Volkova was next, 6-0, 6-2 on court 5. Ponce clinched the win for the second match in a row with her 6-1, 6-0 win on court 3. 

After the match was clinched, the rest of the singles matches played out, with Carpenter, Henderson, and Fereres all securing victories. 

Loyola's women's tennis team has a packed schedule next week, with five matches in six days. The week starts with a matchup at NCAA Division-I Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday. Then, the Wolf Pack will play four NAIA matches in New Orleans in an invitational hosted jointly by Dillard and Xavier.
