MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 23 Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team started Southern States Athletic Conference play with a 7-0 sweep of Blue Mountain Christian University.
Loyola's men's team is now 4-3 on the season with four big NAIA matches awaiting the team next week.
The Wolf Pack started strong in doubles, with Akhil Indrabalan and Remus Hebhang-Balan winning 6-2 on court 1, and Sam Izrael and Samuel Motazed also winning 6-2 on court 2.
Alfredo Gallegos and Hippolyte de Preville didn't drop a game in their 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles, and Gallegos followed that performance with a perfect win at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Indrabalan was close to the same result, winning 6-1, 6-0 on court 4.
All Wolf Pack singles victories came in straight sets. Hebhang-Balan's No. 1 singles match went to a tiebreak in the second set, which he won 7-4. Otherwise, all other sets were won at least 6-3 by the Pack. Izrael, de Preville, and Spencer Matz also picked up singles victories against the Toppers.
Loyola has won its last three dual matches against Blue Mountain.
Next on the schedule is an invitational hosted by Xavier and Dillard, starting on March 20. Loyola will play Lewis-Clark State and Hope International at Dillard's tennis facility before facing No. 11 SCAD Savannah and No. 7 Our Lady of the Lake at Xavier over the weekend.
