Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team began the crossover challenge between the Southern States, Sun, and Appalachian conferences on Thursday. After beating Nicholls on Friday, the Pack picked up another win, 4-0 against SCAD Atlanta.
Both teams were close to a spot in the preseason NAIA Top 25 Rating, with the Wolf Pack receiving the 27th most votes, while the Bees were 30th. Now, Loyola is 2-0 while SCAD is 0-1.
Loyola's top two doubles teams kept up their solid play from the season opener, with both grabbing victories to claim the doubles point for the Pack. Remus Hebhang-Balan and Akhil Indrabalan cruised at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 win. Sam Izrael and Samuel Motazed also got their second win of the season, 6-3 on court 2.
The court 3 duo of Hippolyte de Preville and Alfredo Gallegos was ahead 4-3 in their match, but doubles clinched before they could finish.
Izrael got his first singles win of the spring (6-3, 6-1) to start off singles play. The other two singles points were secured by winners from the Nicholls match. Freshman Alfredo Gallegos improved to 2-0 with a straight-sets win (6-3, 6-2) on court 6. Defending SSAC Player of the Week Akhil Indrabalan clinched the match for the Pack, winning 6-3, 6-3 on court 4.
The Loyola men will continue the crossover challenge with a match against an opponent from the AAC, Reinhardt. The match against the No. 16-ranked Eagles is set for 9 a.m. at the Mobile Tennis Center.
