Box Score NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team won the doubles point against No. 7-ranked Xavier on Tuesday, but ultimately couldn't collect enough singles victories as the Gold Rush won 5-2.
Loyola's men's team now has a 3-3 record this season.
Xavier started out the match with a 6-1 doubles win from their top duo, and they were up 5-0 on court 2, but the Pack finished doubles strong.
Hippolyte de Preville and Alfredo Gallegos played well on court 3, winning 6-4. Then on court 2, Sam Izrael and Samuel Motazed won seven games in a row to capture both their match (7-5) and the doubles point for the Pack.
In singles, Loyola got another point in the match score from de Preville, who defeated Xavier's Artur Yakubov 6-2, 6-4.
The Gold Rush won every other singles match to claim the team win, 5-2.
Next up on the schedule, the Pack will open Southern States Athletic Conference competition with the SSAC Roundup in Montgomery, Ala. on the weekend of March 14-15. Loyola will start the Roundup with a match against Blue Mountain before facing NAIA No. 23 Mobile.
