Box Score 2 NEW ORLEANS – After a strong start to the season for the Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's tennis teams, both lost tough matchups at Dillard on Friday.Â
Â
The No. 8-ranked Loyola women (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season, 4-3 to No. 11 Dillard. The men's team falls to 3-2 with a 5-2 loss to the No. 15-ranked Bleu Devils.Â
Â
For the Pack in the men's match, the pair of points came from the pair of Alfredo Gallegos and Hippolyte de Preville, who also won 6-4 in their match at No. 3 doubles.Â
Â
In singles, Gallegos continued his solid start to the season with a straight-sets win at the No. 5 spot. Dillard had clinched the team win by the time de Preville's match finished at No. 2 singles, but he was able to close out a win in the third set, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.Â
Â
No. 7-ranked Lucy Carpenter kept up her undefeated streak to start the season in both singles and doubles. She and Chloe Henderson rolled at the top doubles court, winning 6-1. Loyola clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 spot, with Micaela Ponce and Adele Fereres fighting off nine match points to eventually secure a win in a tiebreak.
Â
Carpenter picked up her third singles win of the year, 6-3, 6-0 over Truc Tran on the No. 1 court. Ponce also claimed a singles victory with a 6-4, 7-5 result at the No. 3 spot, but Dillard was able to get the required four singles points on courts 2, 4, 5, and 6 to finish the upset win. Â
Â
Loyola's women's tennis team will face another tough task in NCAA Division-I Southeastern Louisiana in a week. The Wolf Pack men's team will return to action in two weeks on February 25 in a men's and women's doubleheader against highly ranked Xavier.Â
