Wolf Pack swims at Viking Invitational Saturday

Loyola set two new school records in the mixed relay events

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Wolf Pack men's and women's swimming programs made their way to Berry College on Saturday to compete in the Viking Invitational. The Wolf Pack competed against the NCAA Division III opponent through 26 events across men's and women's and mixed races.

 

Loyola will wrap up the regular season when it travels to The Sun Conference Championship in Ocala, Fla. from Thursday, Feb. 6 to Saturday, Feb. 8.

 

The Loyola women collected five first-place finishes on Saturday, each event won by a different student-athlete. Brianna Porter started with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke, completing the race in 1:04.21. Catherine Streeter was the next Loyola competitor to receive first place, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.77.

 

Emily Cooper also won an event, earning first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:17.13 time. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Reese Berry ended the race with a victory, getting first place with a 2:43.95 time. Jenna Copes wrapped up the day for the Loyola women with a first-place finish of 59.69 in the 100-yard freestyle. 

 

The Wolf Pack also competed in the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay, taking first place with a time of 1:37.32. Jack McNamara, Streeter, Copes, and Eric Potter were part of Loyola's winning team. The team's 1:37.32 goes in as the best time in school history, breaking the previous school record by nearly four seconds. The Wolf Pack also earned another school record in the 200-yard medley with a second-place performance of 1:52.63. The team of Nick Jones, Harvey Quiddington, Charles Henderson, and Sarah Ford broke the previous mixed 200-yard medley, set in 2022.

 

The Wolf Pack men brought home ten first-place finishes on Saturday. Charles Henderson led Loyola in that regard, being part of three first-place victories on Saturday. Henderson started as a member of Loyola's winning relay team with Jones, Monty Moore-Yetter and Jack McNamara, taking the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:38.63 time. Then, Henderson won the 200-yard and 100-yard butterfly events, winning those with times of 2:05.20 and 53.07, respectively.

 

Benjamin Chehebar was the next to follow, winning two events on Saturday. First, Chehebar won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.75. Then, Chehebar took first in the 100-yard freestyle race, ending the race with a 49.75 time. McNamara also received a second first-place finish, winning the 50-yard freestyle skins event with a 22.44 time. 

 

Jones also joined that group with a second victory, this time winning the 100-yard backstroke with a 57.05 time. Sergio Martínez Sanz earned first place with a time of 10:41.74 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard freestyle, Sanz made his debut in that race, taking a fourth-place finish of 52.07, a new personal-best time. 

 

Logan Gary also notched a first-place victory, receiving a 5:05.97 time in the 500-yard freestyle. Gary also raced a personal-best time in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming a fourth-place performance of 58.52. Eric Potter also received a personal-best in the 100-yard backstroke, taking a fifth-place finish of 58.91.
