KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its 2023-2024 Champions of Character Five-Star Institutions on Wednesday, and the Loyola University New Orleans Athletics Department was among those honored. Loyola earned Silver status, marking the 16th straight year for the Wolf Pack.Â
Â
It's also the ninth straight year of reaching at least Silver after earning Gold for the 2022-2023 academic year. Loyola earned Gold for the 2016-2017 and 2019-2020 academic years as well.
Â
"Earning this status has become a great tradition here at Loyola, and we take pride in being one of the NAIA's Champions of Character institutions," Director of Athletics Brett Simpson said. "This distinction aligns closely with our Jesuit values, and I'm proud of our coaches and student-athletes for making this a priority."
Â
Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.
Â
The Champions of Character levels include Gold (90-100 points), Silver (75-89) and Bronze (60-74).Â
