NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's tennis teams faced Meridian Community College in a pair of exhibition matches Saturday afternoon at UNO's University Tennis Center.

The Wolf Pack men's team claimed a 5-2 win, while the women also secured a win by the same score. After two weeks off from SSAC competition, both Loyola tennis teams will return to conference play against Dillard in a 1 p.m. match at City Park on March 13.

Singles competition was played first, and Loyola clinched both matches before doubles began with four singles victories in each match.

On the men's side, Alexander Lichy and Martin Ashworth opened singles with a pair of quick wins, with Lichy not dropping a single game. After Meridian got back with two points to tie it, Loyola closed out singles with straight-sets victories from Hippolyte de Preville and Fernando Sedrani Piestun. Then in doubles, Loyola won on all three courts, starting with a 6-1 win from Lichy and Ashworth. Spencer Matz and de Preville followed with a win on court 1, and Piestun and Diego Rodriguez Tobar closed things out, 6-3 on court 2.

In the women's match, Loyola got four straight-set victories in singles from Elly Carpenter, Ana Cecilia Castillo, Selma Fereres, and Luciana Marziano. Castillo and Fereres teamed up for a 6-4 win in doubles, as did Carpenter and Avrora Volkova. Reilly Briggs and Isabella Leaño made it three doubles victories for the Pack, 6-2 on court 2.
