Tennis teams fall at Xavier

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's tennis teams each played a top-10 NAIA team on Sunday at the XULA Tennis Center.

 

With each match being played to clinch, the Wolf Pack men's team lost 4-1 to Xavier while the women fell 4-2. 

 

Both Loyola teams will now take 0-3 overall records into the conference opener, where the Pack will host Mobile on Thursday, February 29 in City Park. 

 

All the Pack's wins came in singles, as Xavier took the doubles point in each match. Francisco Javier Arce Vieyra got the lone singles win in the men's match, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. 

 

In the women's match, Lucy Carpenter also claimed a decisive win at No. 1 singles: 6-1, 6-2 over Mbali Langa, who came into the match ranked No. 29 among NAIA singles players. 

 

The Wolf Pack went up 2-1 in the match, as Avery Frierson kicked off singles play with a win by the same score as Carpenter on court 6. Xavier was able to clinch the match, however, with three consecutive wins on courts 2, 4, and 5.
